Week 14 of the NFL schedule brings us the first meeting between two NFC East division rivals, the Philadelphia Eagles and the New York Giants. This is a classic rivalry when you think of NFL matchups, and of course, there’s always a lot at stake.
The Giants are in a slump and need to get some more wins if they want to stay in the playoff race, but you already know that the high-flying Eagles would love nothing more than to throw a wrench into the plans of the Giants.
Philadelphia Eagles vs. New York Giants
When looking at the NFL standings, the Eagles have a firm grasp on the NFC East with an 11-1 record, while the Giants are in 3rd place in the NFC East with a 7-4-1 record. If the season ended today, the Giants would still make the playoffs via wildcard, but there isn’t much wiggle room currently, and some untimely losses here in the home stretch of the season could find the Giants watching the playoffs at home.
Philadelphia Eagles Performance Recap and Analysis
If there were still any people doubting the Eagles, last week’s 35-10 thumping of the Tennessee Titans should be putting them to the bay. Jalen Hurts put on a clinic against the Titans, putting up insane NFL player stats throwing for 29 of 39, 380 yards, and 3 TDs.
He ended the game with a 130.3 passer rating. The defense also showed up, holding the Titans to only 209 yards, with only 87 of those coming on the ground. If this defense keeps playing the run the way they did last week, the Eagles are poised to make a deep run in the playoffs.
The Philadelphia Eagles’ stats last week weren’t an exception either, as the Eagles’ season stats are some of the best in the league. The offense is scoring the 2nd most points per game in the league at 28.2 and 3rd most yards per game at 388.3.
They convert 45.81% of their 3rd downs, which helps them march to the red zone, where 73.81% of their trips end in touchdowns. The ability to continually find the end zone is the Eagles’ biggest strength. All while their defense plays lights out, holding teams to 18.8 points per game, the 7th best in the league, and 296.4 yards per game which is the 2nd best.
Key Injuries
Overall the Eagles aren’t suffering from the injury bug too badly, and even though they’ve had to put a few guys on the NFL injury report, they’re still finding a way to play at a high level on both sides of the ball. However, the defense will still get used to C.J. Gardner-Johnson being on IR.
Betting Trends to Know
The Eagles are 0-3 against the spread in their past three away games.
New York Giants Performance Recap and Analysis
The New York Giants are coming into this one after battling with the Washington Commanders to a 20-20 tie last week. The Giants look to find a better result against Philadelphia after their performance, presumably inspired by all the World Cup matches in Qatar right now. Despite the tie, the New York Giants were lacking in many ways in NFL team stats last week compared to their opponents, putting up only 316 total yards to Washington’s 411. The Giants lost in a big way in the battle for possession, letting the Commanders possess the ball for 41:11 of the 70-minute game.
The fact that the Giants got dominated in Time of possession is somewhat odd as they are 9th in the league overall in that NFL team stats category. Offensively on the season, the stats aren’t pretty in the bottom half across the board in all major categories while flourishing in the run game. Of course, it’d be hard not to with Saquon Barkley as you’re running back. The Giants’ defense keeps them afloat this season though they’ve been struggling the past few weeks. The defense will have to return to their play earlier this season if they want to make playoffs as the season is nearing the end stretch.
Key Injuries
Shane Lemieux, Darnay Holmes, Kenny Golladay, Joshua Ezeudu, Adoree Jackson, and Leonard Williams are all joining a long Giants injury list. However, many should be able to play come game time.
Betting Trends to Know
The Giants are 2-1 against the spread in their last three home outings.
Philadelphia Eagles vs. New York Giants Odds
The Eagles come into this one as 7-point favorites with a money line of -295. The Giants’ odds are +245. The NFL odds have the point total at 45.
Philadelphia Eagles vs. New York Giants Betting Picks
Moneyline (PHI -295)
My Eagles vs. Giants prediction has Hurts having another great game. This Giants team is starting to crumble, as many thought would happen earlier in the season. The defense is showing signs of weakness, and I expect Philly to be able to take full advantage.
Over/Under (O 45)
I have the Over 45 primarily because I just think that the Philadelphia Eagles are poised to have another big game, even though the division rivalry is strong. I think that the Giants just aren’t in the same place to be able to compete as they would’ve been able to earlier in the season.
Spread (PHI -7)
My Eagles vs. Giants prediction has Philadelphia winning another blowout. You may want to shop around and see if you can get -6.5, but I’m confident in taking the -7.
Philadelphia Eagles vs. New York Giants Score Prediction
My Eagles vs. Giants prediction is the Eagles to win handily 34-16.
NFL Pick: PHI -295, O 45, PHI -7
