Tennessee Titans vs. Seattle Seahawks Betting Preview
The Titans came into Week 1 with some speculation on whether or not they could have a repeat performance from 2020 where they went 11-5. Unfortunately, the Cardinals had other plans and were in control the whole game with a 38-13 victory. The Seahawks buried a rebuilding Colts team by a final score of 28-16, giving them a 1-0 start to their season.
Titans Have to Find Offense Somewhere.
The Tennessee Titans made the playoffs in 2020, winning the AFC South. With eyes on them for a potential return to the 2021 playoffs, the Titans did not perform the way they wanted in their season opener. The Titans made the big move this offseason getting Julio Jones on the roster, but the Titans were only able to accumulate 212 passing yards.
Ryan Tannehill, the quarterback for the Titans, was 21 for 35 for 212 yards and a single touchdown. Coming into 2021, there was lots of chatter about Tannehill’s season in 2020, wondering if it was a fluke. The Titans also have a top running back in Derrick Henry. Unfortunately, he was never able to get going, rushing for just 58 yards.
Defensively, Kyler Murray picked apart the secondary of the Titans. They allowed four passing touchdowns and the best receiver on the Cardinals, D’Angelo Hopkins, to pull in six receptions. They also struggled to stop the running game, giving up 136 rushing yards. If the secondary does not play better Sunday, Russell Wilson will have a big day.
Are the Seahawks the Real Deal?
The Seattle Seahawks have started 2021 the same way they ended the 2020 regular season where they finished with four straight wins. Taking the field this past Sunday against a Colts team that is in a slow rebuild situation, the Seahawks were down three points for four minutes of the game before scoring to take the lead, then never looked back.
Wilson put up a solid day going 18 for 23 with four touchdowns and no interceptions. Wilson found his two main targets, D.K. Metcalf and Ty Lockett, four times. Lockett had 100 yards and two touchdowns, while Metcalf had 60 yards a single touchdown. Chris Carson also ran the ball well, running the ball for 91 yards on 16 carries.
The Seahawks defense played well in Week 1 as well. Allowing under 350 total yards as well as only two touchdowns in the whole game, the defense will look to continue this physical style of play with the Titans coming to town. If they can keep Henry under control, this should be another good week for the Seahawks>
The Picks
The Seattle Seahawks are -6½ and the points total is set at 54.
This will be the Titans’ first road game of the season. In 2020 they were 3-5 against the spread playing on the road.
This will be Seattle’s home opener. The Seahawks are great at home. In 2020 they were 6-2 against the spread.
Take the Seahawks -6½ and if you have to bet the points, take the under, otherwise, leave it alone.
