The NFL MVP odds have been shifting throughout the regular season, and these are going to continuously change as players show up with their play on the field or potentially get injured.
For transparency, this is being written after the Thursday Night Football game between the Los Angeles Rams and Seattle Seahawks. These odds are courtesy of Odds Shark, so they can differ depending on where you place your wagers.
Today, we are going to discuss the updated betting odds for the NFL MVP this season and discuss why each of the top-three players in terms of odds has a case to win the award by the time this season concludes.
Kyler Murray (+500)
In order to be considered in the NFL MVP discussion, you need to be on one of the best teams in the league, and that is what the Arizona Cardinals have showcased this season.
Kyler Murray has shown the ability to be a phenomenal passer with nine touchdowns and being in second place with a 74.5 QBR this season, but his legs have given him the ability to avoid negative plays and instead get positive yardage to put Arizona’s offense in better positions.
It does not hurt him having a great cast of skill players like DeAndre Hopkins, AJ Green, and Chase Edmonds to help Murray look even better. He’s currently the favorite to win the award and should be able to continue showcasing why he should be, so get your tickets on him now as 12 total touchdowns through five games is a heck of a number to compete with,
Patrick Mahomes (+600)
What is there to say about Patrick Mahomes that has not already been said? The addition of Josh Gordon to Kansas City’s 53-man roster definitely won’t be a negative aspect for Mahomes, but it could be a fact that he is so great that voters will say this isn’t an outstanding season compared to other years of his career. He currently holds the NFL lead in touchdown passes (14) and QBR (83.0), as well as being in the top-five in passing yards.
Voter’s fatigue can play a factor, but having a schedule like the Chiefs do can really make Patrick Mahomes stand out if he can continue playing as phenomenal as he has to begin the season. They still have Buffalo, Washington, Green Bay, and two Denver games on their schedule, so depending on how Mahomes looks here, it can be the difference between winning his second MVP honors.
Josh Allen (+650)
It’s difficult to shy away against a quarterback who has taken leaps throughout his young career and does not turn the ball over much. He has thrown just two interceptions this season. His numbers include playing against a few weak defenses like Houston and Miami to bolster up his numbers as well.
I personally do not think Josh Allen is capable of surpassing both Mahomes and Murray, but the media does love him, and having a guy like Stefon Diggs doesn’t hurt either.
