Flames vs. Jets Betting Analysis
Calgary Flames
The Calgary Flames have been playing very average hockey during the preseason, and this matchup against the Jets on Friday will be their last preseason game.
Flames’ Recent Loss
The Flames’ recent 5-0 loss was a very ugly sight, and they will be looking to get a win heading into the regular season.
The Flames had some major shakeups to their lineup this off-season. All-star forward Johnny Gaudreau, who led the Flames stats and recorded over 100 points last season, left and signed with the Columbus Blue Jackets and Matthew Tkachuk also left via trade and then signed with the Florida Panthers.
Flames Offense
These players led the offense all season long last year and are very tough to replace. But Calgary did bring in replacement firepower.
The Flames acquired Jonathan Huberdeau from the Florida Panthers and signed free agent Nazem Kadri, formerly of the Colorado Avalanche. Bringing these two players in was huge for Calgary, and their offense should be very solid yet again.
Last Season for Calgary
The Flames had an excellent season last year as they finished in first place in the Pacific division, but they fell short to the Edmonton Oilers in the second round of the playoffs.
The Flames have always had a terrific defense, and with Markstrom in the net, the Flames’ odds shift, and I believe they can beat any team in the league.
They will be a very exciting team to watch this season as they try to make their way back to the playoffs.
Winnipeg Jets
The Winnipeg Jets are hoping for a better season this year after missing out on the playoffs last season. The Jets are currently on a one-game winning streak after their massive 5-0 win over the Flames.
Jets Solid Preseason
The Jets have looked very solid this preseason, and if they can translate their game to the regular season, they should have a good year.
Jets did not make any massive moves this off-season, but they did have a leadership change. The Jets have announced they will have no captain in the 2022-2023 season as Blake Wheeler was stripped of his captaincy.
The Jets also have a coaching change for the upcoming season, as their long-term head coach left the team halfway through last year.
2020 NHL Draft
The Jets’ tenth overall draft pick in the 2020 NHL draft, Cole Perfetti, will be playing on the team this season, and he is a very skilled and speedy young forward.
Connor Hellebuyck has always been the Jets’ best player and is arguably one of the best goalies in the league. For defense, the Jets struggle immensely, as Logan Stanley is most likely their best defenseman.
Flames vs. Jets Betting Betting Prediction
I personally do not see the Jets making the playoffs this season as they are in a stacked Central Division with teams like St Louis, Minnesota, Avalanche, and the Predators.
The Jets do have a solid group of core players that factor into every Jets betting pick, including:
- Blake Wheeler
- Mark Scheifele
- Kyle Connor
But they do not have enough overall depth to make a run this season, in my opinion.
NHL Pick: Calgary to win (+160)
