Rather than focus on any of the competitive games on the NHL schedule today and diving into the NHL standings and NHL injury report to find the best bets, we’ve set our sights on the broader NHL landscape.
This article focuses on a few different NHL player prop bets among the excellent schedule of NHL matchups on Tuesday night.
We’ll review the prop bet odds and NHL player stats to find out the best prop bet candidates to add to your online sports betting ticket.
Matty Beniers
Matty Beniers has spent the majority of the season proving he is a future force to be reckoned with when teams visit the Pacific Northwest. Beniers has 11 goals and thirteen assists on the season.
While the Kraken has gone 2-2 in the last four games, Beniers hasn’t scored a goal since a 5-2 win over the Florida Panthers on December 11th.
St. Louis is riding a four-game winning streak but averages 3.56 goals against per game on 32.6 shots. We think Beniers will score his first goal in the last three games against the Blues.
NHL Player Prop Pick: Anytime Goal (+150)
Brent Burns
Brent Burns and the Carolina Hurricanes will take on the New Jersey Devils in a heavyweight Metropolitan Division matchup.
Be it on the powerplay or playing the wild rover and driving offense in 5-on-5 situations, Burns will be in the mix offensively.
Burns is averaging 2.1 shots in his last ten games and has only hit the over twice in that span. However, Burns averages 3.32 shots per game across the season and has taken two or more shots in six of his last ten games.
The Hurricanes vs. Devils will have very close NHL odds, with Carolina slightly favored for a major Metropolitan division matchup.
We expect Burns to be active from the back end, especially if/when New Jersey takes a penalty.
NHL Player Prop Pick: Over 2.5 Total Shots on Goal (-170)
Jack Hughes
We are sticking with Hurricanes vs. Devils for our next player prop, moving our attention to Jack Hughes of the New Jersey Devils.
Big-time players show up when the games matter the most and the spotlight is the brightest. Hughes has taken great steps forward this season, living up to the heightened expectations of a number one overall draft pick.
Yes, a -220 betting line doesn’t provide much value, but we’re looking for winning props and not necessarily the most value-picking Hughes to score more than 0.5 points against the Hurricanes.
Hughes is averaging 1.4 points over his last ten games, scoring points in nine of those games.
Hughes is averaging 1.16 points per game across the season, so we consider Hughes to score over 0.5 points as a prop bet lock for your betting ticket.
NHL Player Prop Pick: Over 0.5 Total Points (-220)
Kevin Fiala
The Anaheim Ducks are awful. No matter what way you analyze NHL stats, Anaheim is a terrible hockey team. The Ducks face the Kings on Tuesday night and will likely add another loss to their record.
The Kings’ major off-season free-agent signing, Kevin Fiala, is likely to contribute to the Kings’ victory over the Ducks.
Fiala is averaging 1.2 points per game in his last ten games, scoring points in six of the last ten games. Fiala is averaging 1.0 points per game across the season and should add to that total against the Ducks.
NHL Player Prop Pick: Over 0.5 Total Points (-250)
Artemi Panarin
The New York Rangers are riding a seven-game winning streak into Tuesday night’s matchup with the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Panarin has scored points in six of the Rangers’ wins on this winning streak and is averaging 1.5 points in New York’s last ten games.
However, we’re looking at Panarin and his shots on goal prop betting line rather than his points or goals betting lines.
Panarin has averaged 2.7 shots per game in his last ten games and 2.7 shots across the Rangers’ seven-game winning streak. On the season, Panarin is averaging 2.52 shots per game.
NHL Player Prop Pick: Over 2.5 Shots on Goal (-105)
Johnny Gaudreau
Johnny Gaudreau is the offensive engine that drives the Columbus Blue Jackets. While the Blue Jackets have struggled this season, they’d be significantly worse without Gaudreau. Columbus also has trouble scoring.
Gaudreau leads CBJ in NHL player stats and is averaging 0.32 goals and 1.1 points per game on one of the worst NHL teams in the league.
Gaudreau has scored in two of the last ten games, averaging 0.2 goals per game, while the Bleu Jackets have struggled to score.
However, the Blue Jackets are facing the Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday night, a team they have defeated twice already this season, scoring five goals in both games.
We expect Columbus to score more than the 1.0 goals per game average of CBJ’s current four-game losing streak against the Flyers, and Gaudreau will be one of those goal scorers.
NHL Player Prop Pick: Anytime Goal (+145)
Brady Tkachuk
Brady Tkachuk is averaging 4.42 shots per game on the season and 4.2 shots over his last ten games.
Whether the prop bet line was set at 3.5 or 4.5 shots, Tkachuk has hit the over on the total shots betting line in six of his last ten games. On the season, Tkachuk has averaged 13.2% of the Senators’ shots per game.
Tkachuk and the Senators are playing the Winnipeg Jets, who are averaging 2.58 goals on 31.3 shots against per game.
Ottawa might not win this game outright, but we expect Tkachuk to show up in a big way and be the force driving the Senators toward a win, and he’ll take enough shots to hit the over at 4.5 shots.
NHL Player Prop Pick: Over 4.5 shots (+115)
