- The Vancouver Canucks have yet to win in seven tries and have collected just two points in that time
- Only the Anaheim Ducks sport a worse goal differential than the Canucks
- The Seattle Kraken are off to a much better start this season, sitting in the middle of the Western Conference pack
NHL 2022-23 Campaign
The Vancouver Canucks are off to a horrid start to their 2022-23 campaign, going 0-5-2 to open the season.
Whispers of a potential rebuild are beginning to grow louder on the west coast are beginning to grow louder with each uninspiring effort.
Only seven games into an 82-game schedule, the Canucks will need a minor miracle to even contend for the postseason.
The Kraken were expected to at least be a decent club coming out of the expansion draft last season, but they faltered in a hurry.
Canucks vs. Kraken Odds Breakdown
This season, the club sits a decent 3-3-2 through eight games and sits right in the middle of the Western Conference pack. At home, however, they’ve gone just 1-2-1.
Moneyline | Puck Line | Over/Under | |
---|---|---|---|
Canucks | +117 | +1.5 (-220) | Over 6.5 (-105) |
Kraken | -129 | -1.5 (+190) | Under 6.5 (-105) |
The Canucks are the underdog in this one, paying plus money to win this one outright. A $100 bet on the Canucks pays a profit of $117 if they are to grab their first win of the season.
At the same time, you’ll need to put down $129 to win $100 if you believe the Kraken can come out on top as favorite.
Puckline
As for the puck line, the Canucks are heavily favored to keep this game within a goal or win outright. The -220 odds indicate you need to bet $220 to win $100 if you believe the winless Canucks can keep this one within a goal.
The Kraken’s +190 odds to win this one by at least two goals pays handsomely, profiting $190 from a $100 bet.
Total
Finally, we have a 6.5 total goal over/under in this one tonight. The NHL odds are dead even on each side and, for example, a $105 bet pays $100 in profit each way.
The Canucks have obviously struggled to open the season but the Kraken provide a solid chance to grab their first win of the young season.
Vancouver has been in many games this season — grabbing leads in many of them — but have been unable to play a full 60 minutes and close out potential wins.
Kraken’s Home-ice Advantage
The Kraken have a home-ice advantage working for them in this one, but they simply haven’t been very good at home in the early going, winning just once in four tries.
They continue to get unreliable goaltending as they’ll once again be at a goaltending disadvantage with Thatcher Demko going for the Canucks.
Gametime tonight in the NHL Shedule Seattle game is scheduled for 10:00 p.m. EST or 7:00 p.m. local time on the west coast.
This one can be seen on Sportsnet Pacific for those in the Canucks’ region or ROOT Sports Northwest for those in the Seattle area.
Canucks vs. Kraken Betting Analysis
Canucks Desperate for a Win
If the Canucks don’t right the ship in a hurry, things will get ugly. That’s the nature of the business north of the border.
Bruce Boudreau is already on the hot seat behind the bench and whispers of a full-blown rebuild are not going away until this NHL team puts together a solid stretch of hockey.
Canuck’s Jumbled Lineup
The Canucks have jumbled their lineup all over the place so far in an effort to find some chemistry.
With Brock Boeser now in injured reserve, the Canucks have moved Bo Horvat to the No. 1 center spot and shifted J.T. Miller to left wing.
Elias Pettersson remains down the middle while he is projected to skate with Ilya Mikheyev and rookie Andrei Kuzmenko on the second line. In addition to Boeser on the IR, the club is also without a handful of regulars.
All-world blueliner Quinn Hughes is also out of the lineup, as are fellow blueliners Travis Dermott and Tucker Poolman. Curtis Lazar joined Boeser on the IR earlier this week.
Kraken Looking for Home Cooking
The Seattle Kraken have just one win in four attempts on home ice this season but have managed to somewhat mitigate that issue with a solid 2-1-1 mark on the road.
However, if they’re to make any headway in their second season, they’ll need to make Climate Pledge Arena a tougher place to play moving forward.
The Future of the Kraken
Matty Beniers is the future of this franchise, and he’s set to center the top line between veterans Jordan Eberle and Jaden Schwartz.
Andre Burakovsky has made his mark in the early going, and he’ll slide in on the second line alongside Alexander Wennberg and Oliver Bjorkstrand. Jared McCann, Yanni Gourde, and Karson Kuhlman round out the club’s top nine.
This team simply needs a better goaltender. Philipp Grubauer has fallen off a cliff since leaving Colorado for Seattle in free agency while Martin Jones continues to trend in the wrong direction.
Call me crazy, but we’ll go with the winless Canucks in this one. As noted, they have had multiple leads — even some in the late stages of the game — but were unable to close out those contests.
Canucks vs. Kraken Pick and Prediction
Should Demko get the starting nod in goal, Vancouver has the easy goaltending advantage in this one and should absolutely be the hungrier team given the state of their season.
The Kraken have been okay so far, but this club is still looking to find an identity in just their second season. Unreliable goaltending has put them further behind the eight ball than they expected.
Get your money’s worth and grab the Canucks tonight on the moneyline.
