Despite a rough six weeks, LAFC still find themselves tied for first in points in the Western Conference of the MLS standings. Technically they are in second place, but they head into Dallas having played fewer games than St. Louis and can end up alone in the first place by the end of this weekend.
Meanwhile, Dallas is just one point ahead of rival Austin FC for the crucial seventh spot in the standings, and they could end the weekend anywhere from third to ninth place.

FC Dallas vs. LAFC Betting Preview
As the MLS schedule carries on despite the CONCACAF Gold Cup, both teams will be missing important pieces for this contest. Those absences will have an impact on the FC Dallas vs LAFC odds for Saturday.
FC Dallas
Dallas has fallen into seventh place in the Western Conference as they have lost four of their last five games against MLS teams. They haven’t played since a 3-0 loss to rival Austin on June 21 and haven’t won since resuming an abandoned game against St. Louis on June 7.
Dallas has some roster issues for this contest against the defending champs.
Leading scorer Jesus Ferreira is leading the USMNT attack in the Gold Cup, while Paul Arriola, Jesus Jimenez, and Paxton Pomykal are among up to six FCD players out with injury.
Alan Velasco, Jader Obrian, and Facundo Quignon will be among the players to feature on Saturday. Those three have combined for four goals on the season, the same number of goals scored by Dallas defenders in 2023.
Dallas has been tough to handicap in MLS picks this season. They lost just three of their first 14 games and looked like true contenders before losing four of the last five and being shut out twice in a row. They are better at home, with five wins and two draws in their last eight games at Toyota Stadium.
LAFC
Heading into July, LAFC have the best MLS odds to win the title again this season, but no team has repeated since 2011-12. They are still playing catchup with a congested fixtures list after missing games for the CONCACAF Champions League in May. They will have to play this stretch without defensive star Aaron Long who is at the Gold Cup.
Denis Bouanga is among MLS leaders with 11 goals on the season, while former MVP Carlos Vela has six. But no other LAFC attackers have stepped up, and those two have combined for 17 of the team’s 28 goals in league play.
Manager Steve Cherundolo continues to rotate the squad with a congested schedule. LAFC will play five times in 14 days before the Leagues Cup starts, and in that stretch, they face three teams in the top seven in the West, plus rivals LA Galaxy.
Last year’s starting goalkeeper Maxime Crepeau broke his leg in the final, and this year’s duties have mostly gone to John McCarthy. The veteran has six clean sheets while allowing 18 goals in 16 MLS starts.
FC Dallas vs. LAFC Betting Picks
Moneyline: LAFC +159. The top FC Dallas vs LAFC odds pick to make for this week is LAFC on the moneyline at +159. LAFC won this matchup in March 2-1, and they are 4-1 in their last five games against FC Dallas.
Over/Under: Under 2.5 (-105). With Ferreira at the Gold Cup and Arriola injured, it is hard to see FC Dallas contributing much to the scoreline. LAFC is better at home, and this game could very easily end 1-0.
