Freiburg Draw Borussia Dortmund
+210+275+120

On paper, Borussia Dortmund have the better set of players, which is why they head to Europa-Park Stadion as the favorites with the bookmakers.

However, Freiburg are not badly priced as the home team, with their excellent start to the season being the reason why. Looking at the Bundesliga odds, the draw at +275 is also good value.

Can the In-form Hosts Upset Borussia?

Freiburg have kicked off their 2022-23 season in style. In late July, Christian Streich’s side edged past Kaiserslautern in the German Cup, coming from behind to get the win in extra time.

They followed that up by starting their Bundesliga campaign with a resounding 4-0 win on the road against Augsburg.

  • Michael Gregoritsch
  • Vicenzo Grifo
  • Matthias Ginter
  • Ritsu Doan

Got the goals at the WWK Arena.

Freiburg Optimism

Freiburg headed into the new season with plenty of optimism after claiming a sixth-place finish in the Bundesliga last term.

As a result, they have booked their spot in this year’s UEFA Europa League. Juggling European and domestic soccer will be a challenge, but Christian Streich and his troops will be well up for the task ahead.

A Tough Fixture

This weekend’s fixture will certainly be a tough one, but Freiburg will be backed by their vocal support and will back themselves to upset the eight-time German champions.

Projected Lineup:

  • Mark Flekken
  • Kilian Sildillia
  • Matthias Ginter
  • Philipp Lienhart
  • Christian Guenter
  • Nicolas Hoefler
  • Maximilian Eggestein
  • Ritsu Doan
  • Roland Sallai
  • Vincenzo Grifo
  • Michael Gregoritsch

Injuries:

  • Kimberly Ezekwem
  • Lukas Kubler
  • Kevin Schade
  • Lucas Holer

Black and Yellows to Return Home with Maximum Points?

Borussia Dortmund will be hoping to bridge the gap on Bayern Munich this year. Dortmund have not won the Bundesliga title since Jurgen Klopp guided them to glory over a decade ago. Since then, Bayern have dominated Germany’s top tier.

Marco Rose departed the Westfalenstadion at the end of the last campaign, with Edin Terzic taking over. The new head coach got off to a flying start with a comfortable 3-0 cup success over 1860 Munich in late July.

Hard-fought Victory

Borussia Dortmund then began their league season with a hard-fought victory over Bayer Leverkusen last week, with Marco Reus scoring the only goal of the game.

Having won two league and cup games on the bounce without conceding a goal at the start of the new season, Borussia Dortmund will fancy their chances of keeping a clean sheet and bringing all three points back to North Rhine-Westphalia.

Projected Lineup:

  • Gregor Kobel
  • Thomas Meunier
  • Mats Hummels
  • Nico Schlotterbeck
  • Raphael Guerreiro
  • Jude Bellingham
  • Mahmoud Dahoud
  • Thorgan Hazard
  • Marco Reus
  • Donyell Malan
  • Youssoufa Moukoko

Injuries:

  • Tom Rothe
  • Niklas Sule
  • Sebastian Haller
  • Karim Adeyemi
  • Mateu Morey
  • Salih Ozcan
  • Nico Schultz

Freiburg vs. Borussia Dortmund Pick and Prediction

Both Freiburg and Borussia Dortmund have 100% records this season. The pair kept clean sheets last weekend, and the away team have yet to concede a goal in two league and cup matches so far.

After watching Freiburg rip Augsburg apart, this is not an easy fixture to call. The hosts will no doubt be formidable opponents for Dortmund, but I can see the visitors nicking the points at Europa-Park Stadion.

Who to Bet On?

The away victory on Friday is available at +120. It is likely to be close on the scoreline, so have a punt on Dortmund to win 1-0 at +1000.

Last weekend, Borussia were ahead after ten minutes, thanks to Marco Reus’ effort. They also took the lead in the eighth minute against 1860 Munich the week before.

According to the Bundesliga stats, it could be worth putting some money on a goal in the first ten minutes of this one (+300).

Soccer Pick: Dortmund (+120)
