Two of England’s finest lock horns at Anfield in Premier League action this Sunday, as Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool, welcomes Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City to Merseyside.
The Reds have made a poor start to their league campaign and are already 14 points behind leaders Arsenal.
As for City, they are flying high in second with 23 points to their name. In our preview, we check out the latest Liverpool and Man City odds vs. give you our picks.
Liverpool vs. Manchester City Odds Breakdown
Liverpool may be the home side, but Klopp’s underperforming Reds are the underdogs in this one. Looking at the latest Liverpool vs. Man City odds, the home team is priced at +260. There have rarely been such long odds at home since Klopp took over.
Man City are in red-hot form at present, and the Premier League champions will fancy their chances of picking up all three points from the weekend’s trip to Merseyside.
Pep’s boys are available at just -110 to get the win at Anfield, while the draw is being priced at around +300.
Liverpool
Liverpool had a season to remember the last time around. They beat Chelsea on penalties to win both the EFL Cup and FA Cup but came up short in the race for the Premier League and UEFA Champions League trophies. In the league, the Reds were edged out by Manchester City on a thrilling final day.
Before a ball was kicked in the 2022-23 Premier League season, Liverpool was expected to be there or thereabouts in the battle for the title.
However, the Reds have made a woeful start by their high standards, winning just two of their opening eight games.
Liverpool starts the weekend down in tenth after taking a mere ten points from a possible 24. The Merseysiders suffered their second Premier League reverse of the campaign last weekend.
Five Goal Thriller
They played their part in a five-goal thriller at the Emirates Stadium, but leader Arsenal nicked a 3-2 win.
However, they did respond in emphatic style in the Champions League in midweek, with Mohamed Salah scoring a record-breaking hat-trick in a resounding 7-1 win against Rangers at Ibrox.
In spite of their woes, Liverpool has managed to remain solid at home this season, unbeaten at Anfield in six league and cup matches (four wins, two draws).
They have not lost on home turf on the EPL schedule since losing 1-0 to Fulham way back in March 2021. Liverpool is desperate for all three points from this one.
Manchester City
Manchester City has been their usual dominant self at the start of the 2022-23 season. The champions are unbeaten on their Premier League schedule, picking up seven wins and two draws. However, they still trail surprise leaders Arsenal after nine matches played.
Guardiola’s Superstars
The Citizens are undefeated in all competitions since losing to Liverpool in the FA Community Shield fixture at Leicester City’s King Power Stadium back in July. Since then, Guardiola’s superstars have won ten and drawn three of 13 league and cup matches.
After six straight wins, scoring 24 goals to boot, Man City were held to a goalless draw at Copenhagen in the Champions League in midweek, though they did play with ten men for over an hour.
Nevertheless, they are safely through to the last 16 of that competition and can now turn their full attention to the Premier League odds before the European knockouts begin.
Among the Scorers
Last time out in the league, Man City walloped Southampton at the Etihad Stadium, with Phil Foden and Erling Haaland among the scorers.
The week before, Haaland and Foden netted three each as City beat rivals Manchester United 6-3. Victory at Anfield on Sunday will be their fourth Premier League win on the bounce. Keep this in mind when thinking about Liverpool vs. Man City odds.
Liverpool vs. Manchester City Betting Preview
Liverpool has been uncharacteristically poor this season. We are so used to seeing the Merseyside giants dominate teams, but the Reds have picked up just six wins from 13 games in all competitions. However, one of those victories did come against Manchester City in July.
Man City have been sensational so far, especially in their past few Premier League matches. They have scored a staggering 33 league goals already, shipping just nine at the other end. The Manchester club is unbeaten since that loss to Liverpool in Leicester.
Who to Bet On?
Recent matches between these two heavyweights have been tight and tense affairs, with three of the last four in the Premier League ending in draws. However, we fancy in-form Man City to ease past out-of-sorts Liverpool in this one.
Going by the latest Liverpool vs. Man City odds, there is excellent value in +100 for the away team to be winning at half-time and full-time. Also, back over 3.5 goals at +120.
EPL Pick: Man City (+100)
