Dallas will spend the week in the Pacific Northwest with a Saturday game at defending Western Conference champions Portland Timbers. They have 14 points on the road this season but have just one win away from home since May 28.
Manager Nico Estevez typically uses a 4-3-3 formation for FC Dallas though he switched to a 4-2-3-1 to beat the Galaxy.

The back four consisted of Emmanuel Twumasi and Marco Farfan on the outside and Jose Martinez with Matt Hedges at the two center-back positions. Maarten Pes started again as the goalkeeper.
Dallas Lineup Breakdown
Jara has started just four times, though he has scored three goals in 21 games overall. Ferreira is among the goal-scoring leaders in MLS with 12, and he scored against RSL two games ago. Arriola has nine goals, while Velasco has three goals and three assists.
Paes, on loan from Utrecht in his native Netherlands, has started 21 of the 23 MLS games for Dallas. He has allowed 22 goals while making 55 saves and posting six clean sheets. He enters the Seattle game with a 191-minute shutout streak.
Seattle Sounders Battling for Playoffs
The Sounders return home needing to pick up another win as they sit in ninth place, two points out of the last playoff spot.
Seattle lost 2-1 at LAFC last Friday after rallying to beat Colorado Rapids at home on July 23. Jordan Morris and Nicolas Lodeiro scored in the win over Colorado, while an own goal got Seattle on the board in LA.
If the Sounders are going to make a run to get into the playoffs, the next two weeks are crucial. Outside of a Saturday game in Atlanta, they face:
- Real Salt Lake
- LA Galaxy
- Portland Timbers
In the next five games. Those three teams, along with FC Dallas, are all ahead of Seattle in the playoff race as August begins.
Sounders Performance Recap
Seattle lines up in a 4-2-3-1 under manager Brian Schmetzer. They have been without former MVP Raul Ruidiaz for most of the season, and Will Bruin has been the lone striker the last few games.
Morris, Lodeiro, and Jimmy Mendrana started in an attack against LAFC though Jackson Ragen and Fredy Montero finished the game.
Seattle didn’t put a shot on goal against LAFC, and they allowed 19 shots, eight on goal. Cristian Roldan and Albert Rusnak started in defensive midfield.
Nouhou and Alex Roldan started on the outside defensive backs, with Xavier Arreaga and Yeimar at center back.
MLS Games in Goal
Stefan Frei has started 16 of the 22 MLS games in goal. He allowed two goals at LAFC on Friday and has given up 21 on the season. The veteran has 48 saves and three clean sheets, while backup Stefan Cleveland lost four of his six starts.
Schmetzer can make a change with Kelyn Rowe eligible to return from red-card suspension. He has played in 19 games this season with 11 starts in defense. If Rowe is in the lineup, look for Medranda to come off the bench.
Seattle Sounders v. FC Dallas Pick and Prediction
Playing in Seattle has been a nightmare for Dallas though most of the current players haven’t been on hand for those losses.
Frei, Ruidiaz, Morris, and Lodeiro missed the May game in Texas as Dallas outshot Seattle 22-4 and won with goals from Ferreira and Jader Obrian.
Look for Seattle to feed off the crowd as they are 6-1-4 at home this season in league play.
Soccer Pick: Sounders (-250)
