Genoa had a surprising return to Serie A in 2023-24, as they finished in 11th place. Icelandic forward Albert Gudmundsson found the net 14 times, but he’s been linked to plenty of other clubs in the transfer market.

Gudmundsson didn’t play in Genoa’s 1-0 win over Reggiana last Friday in the Coppa Italia due to some minor ailments, but should be able to play here if he’s still with the club. Genoa also offloaded Mateo Retegui to Atalanta recently and will be lacking firepower if Gudmundsson also leaves.

While not a strong contender for European competition, Genoa are capable of grabbing results. They only lost five of their 19 home matches last season and have held Inter to draws in the last two meetings in Genoa.

Inter Milan are returning all of their key players from the 2023-24 Scudetto-winning side. Simone Inzaghi’s side are favorites to win Serie A once again and they’ve improved in the offseason.

They signed Napoli midfielder Piotr Zielinski on a free transfer, picked up Genoa keeper Josep Martinez and Porto striker Mehdi Taremi. Still, Lautaro Martinez’s contract extension is the best news of the Summer.
