The Mallorca Championship, an ATP 250 grass court event in Spain, is a relatively new event that was first held in 2021. The ATP hadn’t been in Mallorca Championship odds since 2002, and back then, the tournament was played on clay.
Daniil Medvedev won the inaugural tournament in 2021, and Stefanos Tsitsipas is the defending champion. Tsitsipas returns this year as the top seed.
The Mallorca Championship odds is one of two ATP 250 events this week. With the Rothesay International emanating from Eastbourne, Great Britain. This is the last week before one of the biggest tennis main events of the year: Wimbledon.
Late Withdrawals
Laslo Djere, Tallon Griekspoor, Ugo Humbert, Aslan Karatsev, and Nick Kyrgios were late withdrawals from this year’s Mallorca Championship.
Kyrgios also pulled out of the ATP Halle Open last week, cutting his return from surgery short. He has barely played this season, and his status for Wimbledon is undetermined at this point.
Defending Champion Stefanos Tsitsipas
The world No. 5, Tsitsipas is the only player inside the top 30 in the world in the draw and, thus, easily among the Mallorca Championship contenders. The top seed and defending champion earns an automatic spot in the second round, where he’ll face the winner of Yannick Hanfmann and Pedro Cachin. He has a fairly easy path to the finals. With the biggest challenges in his half of the draw being Adrian Mannarino, Roberto Carballés Baena, and Corentin Moutet.
Tsitsipas is having one of the best seasons of his career despite not winning a title. He is 31-10 and has been in contention in nearly every tournament he has played, making him one of the clear tennis odds favorites at Mallorca. Aside from a disappointing Round of 16 loss in Stuttgart two weeks ago, Tsitsipas reached the semifinals at Roland Garros and the ATP 1000 tournament in Rome. He was a finalist at the Australian Open and ATP 500 event in Barcelona.
Tsitsipas has the best Mallorca Championship odds and should run through the competition, but there’s a few worthy players with upset potential.
Best Underdog Picks
Roberto Carballés Baena
Carballés Baena, who was scheduled to play his first-round match Sunday against Ilya Ivashka, is a decent underdog option if you’re betting on anyone other than Tsitsipas for your Mallorca Championship prediction. He’ll have the crowd in his favor and, as the No. 8 seed, has a fairly decent chance at getting through his half of the bracket, where he could potentially meet Tsitsipas in the semifinals.
Carballés Baena is 14-13 this season and has a clay court tournament victory in Marrakech, Morocco, earlier this season. However, he is just 5-13 in his career on grass.
Alejandro Davidovich Fokina
Fellow Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina may be a better bet at the Mallorca Championships as he’s the top seed in the other half of the bracket and has a career 14-11 record on grass.
Must-Bet Matches
Alexander Bublik (-225) vs. Albert Ramos-Vinolas (+175)
- This is one of the closest first-round matches based on tennis odds. Bublik is the far superior grass court player and is coming off of a championship in the ATP Halle event last week. He beat Andrey Rublev in a huge upset and is building some momentum heading into Wimbledon.
Jordan Thompson (-150) vs. Richard Gasquet (+120)
- Jordan Thompson might be ranked lower than Richard Gasquet, but he’s 2-0 against him in his career. He’s also an impressive 27-15 this season compared to Gasquet’s 15-17 record. Thompson is 8-3 on grass this season and has a straight sets grass-court win over Gasquet in 2019. Expect a similar result on Tuesday.
