The 33rd Palermo Open, known in Italy as the Internazionali Femminili di Palermo, is a WTA 250-level event played on clay. Check the Palermo Ladies Open Betting below.
The 32-player tournament began on Monday with first-round matches, including Ana Bogdan vs. Sara Sorribes Tormo and Matilde Paoletti vs. Oceane Dodin.
The Palermo Ladies Open Betting Analysis is being played simultaneously with the WTA Hamburg European Open, which typically attracts a much more competitive field.
That said, the Palermo Open is a great chance for young players to make their mark on the WTA Tour. American Danielle Collins won last year’s event, while Anett Kontaveit, world No. 2, was runner-up in 2020.
Petra Martic (+600) is the betting favorite to win this year’s event, while other leading candidates include Caroline Garcia (+700), Yulia Putintseva (+750), and Sorribes Tormo (+750).
One of the early Round of 32 marquee matches is Sara Errani (+162) and Elisabetta Cocciaretto (-200).
Tennis Score Report
Errani and Cocciaretto have only played once and that was back in 2019, when Cocciaretto defeated Errani at the ITF W60 Asuncion.
Cocciaretto went on to win that tournament. She was just 18 years old at the time but has yet to find similar success on the WTA Tour.
Sara Errani vs. Elisabetta Cocciaretto Betting Analysis
The all-Italian match of Errani vs. Cocciaretto pits one of the best Italian women of the last decade against a possible emerging star from the country.
Sara Errani Analysis
Errani, a 35-year-old with ten career singles titles, was one of the top players in the world a decade ago as she made at least the quarterfinals in the Australian Open, Wimbledon, and US Open.
She also finished 2012 and 2013 as the top-ranked doubles player in the world. However, she hasn’t quite been the same player as of late and has largely stuck to doubles tennis.
Errani Performance Recap
Although it has largely been a struggle for Errani in recent years, she had a breakthrough victory last week at the Grand Est Open 88, a WTA 125 clay court, even in Contrexeville, France.
Errani won five matches and dropped only two sets en route to winning the title with a finals victory over the higher-ranked Hungarian Dalma Galfi.
Errani also reached the final of the Veneto Open Internazionali Confindustria Venezia E Rovigo in her native Italy earlier this season.
Elisabetta Cocciaretto Analysis
Cocciaretto, meanwhile, is looking for her first WTA title after winning five ITF titles. The 21-year-old is the betting favorite and already has a victory over Errani.
She’s also a better player on clay and pretty much only plays on clay. Of her 39 matches this season, 34 have been on clay.
Cocciaretto Performance Recap
Cocciaretto has been sensational this season on clay, having reached the final of the Makarska Open 125 before losing to Jule Niemeier.
She has mostly played in ITF events but has scored victories over higher-ranked opponents, including:
- Anna Karolina Schmiedolva
- Clara Burel
- Martina Trevisan
She reached the quarterfinals at last week’s Hungarian Grand Prix after defeating Reka Luca Jani and Katerina Siniakova.
Weather Forecast
Cocciaretto and Errani are expected to play, weather dependent, Tuesday afternoon.
Sara Errani vs. Elisabetta Cocciaretto Betting Preview
Cocciaretto is the betting favorite at -200, although some sportsbooks have her listed at -180, which is a much more favorable option for tennis betting. She’s the better clay court player and has a stronger serve than Errani.
However, Errani is a great return player, having won 61.8 percent of return games on clay. It’ll be an interesting match of contrasting styles.
Sara Errani vs. Elisabetta Cocciaretto Betting Prediction
All signs point to Cocciaretto winning this match in three sets. Errani should be motivated, having won her last tournament, and will keep things competitive, but Cocciaretto has the edge in playing style, youth and energy, and overall record on clay.
