Qualifiers are ongoing, and the US Open, one of the oldest tennis tournaments in the world, begins officially with first-round action on Monday at the Billie Jean King Tennis Center.
Men’s Favorite Selection
While the women’s field is wide open, the men’s has a few favorites, but there are two notable absences.
Novak Djokovic, who won Wimbledon earlier this year, is once again unable to play due to his vaccination status.
Djokovic has taken a hard stance against vaccines and, in the past, has said he was willing to miss Grand Slams if it meant maintaining his bodily autonomy. He was the US Open men outright betting favorite before having to withdraw on Thursday.
Rafael Nadal’s Advantage
Djokovic’s absence gives Rafael Nadal, who is also just back in action not too long ago after suffering an abdominal injury at Wimbledon, an opportunity to pad his lead on the Serbian for the most Grand Slam titles.
Nadal has one more than Djokovic and is a four-time US Open winner. He last won in 2019. Roger Federer, while still not retired, isn’t playing the US Open as expected.
Swiss Legend
It’s hard to believe, but the Swiss legend last won the US Open in 2008, concluding a dominant stretch in which he won the tournament in five consecutive years.
Alex Zverev, the defending Olympic gold medalist and 2020 US Open finalist, also won’t be playing in the US Open due to an ankle injury he suffered during his semi-final match against Rafael Nadal in the French Open. The German would have been a great option for tennis betting at this year’s US Open.

2022 US Open Betting Favorites
Daniil Medvedev
Medvedev is the world No. 1 and has been playing well as of late, with a few exceptions. He won the Los Cabos Open a few weeks ago but had a tough draw at the Canadian Open and lost to wildcard Nick Kyrgios in the first round.
He reached the final of the Western & Southern Open before losing to Stefanos Tstisipas.
Medvedev is the defending champion and a strong hard-court player, so expect him to be in contention once again. However, he has a tough draw as he’s lined up to face Kyrgios again by the fourth round.
Tennis Odds: (+175)
Rafael Nadal
Rafael Nadal will likely be the fan favorite at the US Open, even with a few Americans likely in contention.
Nadal is one of the most popular players in the ATP tennis bets and is a four-time US Open winner. He’ll cement his lead over Djokovic in all-time Grand Slam wins with a victory in New York.
Tennis Odds: (+350)
Carlos Alcaraz
Carlos Alcaraz is one of the most dynamic and entertaining – and talented – young players on the ATP Tour.
He’s a tennis betting favorite for the US Open for good reason, but his play hasn’t been all that consistent as of late.
Quarter-final
Alcaraz lost to Cameron Norrie in the quarter-final at the Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati, prior to which he suffered a disappointing first-round loss to American Tommy Paul at the Canadian Open.
He has, however, fared well in Grand Slams, reaching at least the Round of 16 at Wimbledon and the French Open. Perhaps the US Open is his big break.
Tennis Odds: (+400)
US Open Men Outright Odds Winner Pick
While there are several intriguing tennis prediction options here, it’s hard to ignore the play and momentum of Nick Kyrgios.
The enigmatic and talented Aussie reached his first Grand Slam final at Wimbledon and then followed that up by winning the Citi Open.
Not only that, Kyrgios has beaten some of the top players in the world, including world No. 1 Daniil Medvedev, in recent weeks.
His US Open men outright odds have shortened dramatically as of late, but there’s still good value at +650. He will likely have to beat Medvedev again, however, if he’s going to win his first Grand Slam.
How to Bet on the US Open
Check out the odds at various sportsbooks to determine the most favorable for your tennis predictions. Kyrgios is a good bet at +650, but he might have longer odds elsewhere, offering more money on a potential victory. You should do this regardless of who you’re betting.
You’ll have to wager on the outright winner before the start of the tournament if you want the best odds. You can still bet on the outright winner later, but the odds will continue to shrink as more players are eliminated.
