[June 27, 2022] The first round of Wimbledon is finally here. The oldest and most prestigious tennis tournament in the world began Monday morning, with matches ongoing throughout the All England Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club. Check the Djokovic vs Kwon Betting Analysis below.
Wimbledon Open odds have Novak Djokovic (-125) and Iga Swiatek (+165) as the betting tennis favorites to win this year’s male and female draws. Djokovic, hoping to win his fourth consecutive crown at Wimbledon and sixth in eight years, has a formidable task in front of him with his first-round opponent: Soon-woo Kwon.
Last Game Records
Although Kwon is 11 years younger than Djokovic, it wasn’t evident in their first and only matchup. Djokovic had Kwon exhausted, running all over the court in a 6-1, 6-3 victory in the round of 16 at the ATP 250 clay-court event in Belgrade, Serbia.
Djokovic, a native of Serbia, had the benefit of the home crowd on his side in this match. It’ll be interesting to see if Kwon can make the match more competitive this time around.
Matchup Information

Djokovic vs. Kwon Betting Analysis
Djokovic is the clear favorite here at (-15000), so it’s going to be a near miracle if he loses. For those needing context, these tennis betting odds mean you would need to wager $1,500 on Djokovic just to win $100. It’s hardly a worthwhile wager.
Djokovic is also the tournament betting favorite (-125), and for a good reason, given his past success at the All England Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club. He has, however, shown signs of decline this season as he’s only 16-5 and has a couple of disappointing early-round exits at tournaments earlier this season. He has yet to play on grass this year.
Kwon has the luxury of playing with reckless abandon. Nobody expects him to keep this competitive, let alone win, so he’ll be playing free and loose while hoping to score an all-time upset.
The world No. 81 player is 12-15 this season and is coming off of three consecutive first-round exits, including one on the ATP Challenger Tour. He has some solid wins this season and took rising star Carlos Alcaraz to three sets in Barcelona, but he’ll need plenty of luck to take down Djokovic.
Djokovic Looking for Redemption
A 20-time Grand Slam champion, Djokovic is hoping to win Wimbledon and the upcoming US Open to tie Rafael Nadal for the all-time lead with 22 Grand Slam titles. He was denied his 21st Grand Slam at the 2022 Australian Open due to his vaccination status and lost to Nadal in the quarter-finals at the French Open.
Djokovic has yet to compete on grass this season and hasn’t played since the conclusion of the French Open. He’ll be rested and ready for a long run at Wimbledon.
Can Kwon Test Djokovic?
The simple answer here is no, but anything can happen, and that’s why they play the matches. Kwon did take Andrey Rublev, then ranked world No. 7, to four sets in the opening round at Roland Garros and will look to draw upon that experience in today’s match against Djokovic.
Updates
- Djokovic defeated Kwon, 6-1-6-3, in the Serbia Open last spring.
- Djokovic is still unvaccinated, meaning he won’t be able to play in the US Open this Summer
Djokovic vs. Kwon Betting Preview
The match is due to get underway at 9:30 a.m. EST on Centre Court but will likely be starting later due to weather-related delays expected during the morning.
Djokovic vs. Kwon Betting Prediction
There’s no real reward here in trying to be too smart and expecting Kwon to take down the defending champion. Djokovic should cruise to a victory, but don’t be shocked if Kwon can steal a set early as he did during his first-round match at the French Open.
How to Bet on Djokovic vs. Kwon
There are several sportsbooks at which you can wager on the first-round match between Djokovic and Kwon. Shop around for different and more favorable lines for betting on tennis and find the one that best suits your prediction.
If for some reason, you think Kwon is scoring the upset, you can look to see which sportsbook has him as the biggest underdog. There’s a considerable difference in betting him at +2800 and +3400.
Men’s tournament matches at Grand Slams are five sets, making over/under tennis betting more attractive. It’s tough to imagine this not being a straight-set victory for Djokovic, however.
