Wimbledon, the oldest tennis tournament in the world and the third of four Grand Slams, starts on June 27 with opening-round matches. These continue on Tuesday with several intriguing matches, one of which is Stefanos Tsitsipas vs. Alexander Ritschard. Check the Tsitsipas vs Ritschard Betting Analysis below.
Tsitsipas, coming off a grass tournament victory at Mallorca, is looking to reach his second Grand Slam final and win his first Grand Slam. Ritschard, meanwhile, is playing in his first Grand Slam after advancing through qualification.
Last Game Records
Tsitsipas and Ritschard have never played each other.
Tsitsipas vs. Ritschard Betting Analysis
Tsitsipas, 23, hasn’t advanced past the first round at Wimbledon in each of his last two appearances, but he has a very favorable matchup this year. He’s also done well at the All England Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club in the past, with a fourth-round exit in 2018.
He’s also coming off a grass tournament victory at Mallorca with a three-set finals victory over Roberto Bautista-Agut. He explained in the pre-tournament press conference for Wimbledon how his confidence on grass is growing.
“People kind of doubted that I can play on grass, I think it’s fair to say. I never doubted myself. I said – I insisted, in fact, that I can play on this surface, and it remains one of my favorite surfaces that tennis has to offer. was pretty confident about it.”
Ritschard has never faced Tsitsipas and doesn’t have a win over anybody ranked higher than 200 this season. He shouldn’t be a threat but could present a challenge due to Tsitsipas’ unfamiliarity with him.
Tsitsipas Seeking First Grand Slam
Tsitsipas has had a fairly decent season with more than $3 million in prize money and a win-loss record of 36-13, so he’s a good selection for tennis betting odds in this match and even as an outright Wimbledon open odds winner.
The 2019 winner of the Nitto ATP Finals won an ATP 1000 Masters event in Monte Carlo earlier this season but is still seeking his first tournament victory at a Grand Slam. He’ll likely want to get through his first-round match without any stress, and that seems possible.
Can Ritschard Score an Upset?
A native of Switzerland, Ritschard likely isn’t known to casual tennis betting fans and probably barely known among hardcore fans. He’s a longshot Wimbledon open odds winner and, unless Tsitsipas forgets how to play tennis, likely shouldn’t have a shot at advancing to the second round.
However, upsets always happen in tennis, especially in high-pressure Grand Slam matches. Ritschard reached the final of an ATP Challenger event in February and scored a victory over Tim van Rijthoven, who won an ATP 250 grass-court event before Wimbledon.
Tsitsipas vs. Ritschard Betting Preview
Tennis betting for this match should close just ahead of the match start time, which is tentatively scheduled for 7 a.m. EST on Tuesday, June 28. However, delays are common, and matches sometimes run long, so it could be played later.
Tsitsipas vs. Ritschard Betting Prediction
Tsitsipas should have no trouble advancing past Ritschard to reach the second round of Wimbledon. He’s the fourth seed in the tournament, and, with no Medvedev or Zverev, he has a chance to go deep in the draw.
Ritschard, meanwhile, advanced via qualification and should at least have some positive momentum, but he didn’t face anyone as talented as Tsitsipas in qualifiers. The 28-year-old is outside of the top 190 players in the world and has only been playing ATP Challenger Tour events this season.
Don’t try to be too smart here. Take Tsitsipas to advance past the first round, perhaps even in a straight-set victory.
