Osaka Returns to Action, Pegula to Defend her Title
The National Bank Open is a WTA 1000 event that typically attracts all of the top players in the world, but because of its proximity to the Olympics in Paris has a few notable absences this year, including world No. 1 Iga Swiatek and Elena Rybakina.
American Jessica Pegula, the defending champion, is the third seed in the National Bank Open betting guide and has the fifth-shortest tennis odds to win the tournament, but there are better picks for this year’s tournament.

Naomi Osaka has been gradually improving and getting back into game form after a lengthy layoff from pregnancy and is in a good position to make her mark on the sport this week in Toronto.

WTA National Bank Open Betting Analysis
American Coco Gauff is the top seed in the tournament, followed by Aryna Sabalenka, Pegula, Jelena Ostapenko, and Daria Kasatkina. There are eight qualifiers in the 56-player field as well as lucky loser Harriet Dart and eight wild cards and protected ranking players, including Canadian Bianca Andreescu, Paula Badosa, and Zhang Shuai.
Pegula, the defending champion, is one of the eight players who receive a bye into the second round. She will play the winner of Karolina Pliskova and Nadia Podoroska in the second round and is in the same quarter section as Madison Keys, Leylah Fernandez, and Victoria Azarenka.
Fernandez is a decent bet to win that quarter of that bracket. The Canadian typically performs well on home soil and is coming off a decent Olympics that included a fourth-place finish in the mixed doubles.
Osaka, who is a popular pick in National Bank Open betting sites, is a wild card entry into the tournament and has a tough first match against Ons Jabeur. But if she can get past Jabeur it might get a little easier for Osaka. She would have to potentially beat Gauff to advance to the semi-finals, but she is 2-2 against the 2023 US Open champion and won twice in straight sets on hard courts.

WTA National Bank Open Previous Winners and Betting Trends
This year marks the 122nd edition of the National Bank Open, also known as the Canadian Open. Simona Halep and Serena Williams were the most successful players here in the modern era, winning three times each. Andreescu is the last Canadian to win the National Bank Open, beating Williams in the 2019 final.
Pegula won last year’s event in dominant fashion, scoring a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Liudmila Samsonova in the final. Halep won in 2022, beating Beatriz Haddad Maia, and Camila Giorgi beat Pliskova in the 2021 final.
Other past winners of the National Bank Open betting guide include Svitolina (2017), Belinda Bencic (2015), Petra Kvitova (2012), and Caroline Wozniacki (2010).
WTA National Bank Open Betting Picks
Osaka is my pick to win the Canadian Open in large part due to her favorable odds. She is only 16-14 this season and has played sparingly over the last four seasons, including missing all of the 2023 season, but she has the pedigree and should put in a good performance ahead of the US Open, where she is a former champion. Hope you enjoyed our National Bank Open betting preview and guide! Good luck with your tennis picks!
