Recent Scores
The Sun swept the season series last season by an average margin of 14.5 points per victory. They have won eight out of the last nine dating back to Aug. 18, 2020 as the Sun have been one of the best teams in the league during that stretch.
The Fever have been rebuilding for years at a time, though it appears they are heading in the right direction and can make Sun vs Fever predictions tempting on each side.
Connecticut Sun vs. Indiana Fever Analysis
The Sun finished 25-11 last season and reached the WNBA Finals. Two years prior they had the league’s Most Valuable Player in Jonquel Jones, but she is off to the New York Liberty. Still, the Sun have plenty of veteran players ready to step in and lead the team into a new era.
DeWanna Bonner emerged as an emotional leader during last year’s playoffs. She enters her 14th season as a wing who can handle the ball on the perimeter and drive. Guard Tiffany Hayes enters her 11th season.
Former defensive player of the year Brionna Jones remains with the team in her seventh season, while fellow forward Alyssa Thomas enters year 10. They will be great mentors for the younger players, such as rookie guard Leigha Brown out of Michigan, Olivia Nelson-Ododa in her second season, third-year players DiJonai Carrington and Lauren Cox, each of Baylor, and fourth-year guard Tyasha Harris.
Fever’s Rebuilding Journey Begins
Meanwhile, the Fever are full of younger players who are going to gain experience together. It is needed after a 5-31 season and finishing last in the WNBA standings. With the first pick in the 2023 WNBA Draft, the Fever selected Aliyah Boston, an All-American out of South Carolina, and also added her teammate Victoria Saxton and Indiana guard Grace Berger.
That is one pocket of a core after the Fever built a roster with six players entering their second seasons. That group includes guard Maya Caldwell, center Queen Egbo, center Bernadett Hatar, guard Lexie Hull, forward NaLyssa Smith, and guard Kristy Wallace.
There are a few players who bring veteran experience. Kelsey Mitchell enters her sixth season, and fellow guard Erica Wheeler enters her eighth season. Forward Emma Cannon is entering her fifth season, and a wing in Victoria Vivians is entering her fifth season.
But the Fever are young, and there are going to be some growing pains, particularly earlier in the season. Though, it appears they have a core that can grow and develop together.
