A pair of top 5 teams meet at 10 p.m. ET on Thursday when the Washington Mystics visit the Seattle Storm. The Mystics (11-8) are third in the Eastern Conference, though a game and a half back of the Chicago Sky and Connecticut Sun as co-leaders. The Storm (10-6) are three games behind the Las Vegas Aces in the Western Conference.
In the month of June, the Mystics are 4-5 while 3-6 against the spread. The under is 5-4 in those games. Seattle is 5-3 straight up and 3-5 against the stream this month. The over/under is split at 4-4.
WNBA odds show the Storm are 2.5-point favorites over Washington with an over/under of 153. Both of those numbers come at -110 odds, either way bettors decide to go. Washington is moneyline underdogs at +125, with the Storm favored at -145.
Mystics at Storm Stats
Washington Mystics Stats
The Mystics have been great defensively, in fact, the best team in the WNBA. They allow 75.1 points per game, the best rank of the season. Though they allow opponents to shoot 43.2% from the field, which is fifth, and 32.8% from 3-point range, which is third.
Offensively there have been issues. The Mystics are scoring 79.1 points per game, ranking eighth (bottom fourth of the league). They are converting 43.4% from the field, ranking sixth, but are 33.5% from 3-point range, ranking eighth. Their rebounding is also eighth, grabbing 34.5 rebounds per game.
Elena Delle Donne finished eighth in among forwards in All-Star votes. She’s only played 11 games this season and is averaging 14.9 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game. She missed the first eight games of the season and had only played in four the prior two seasons.
Ariel Atkins has been the top-scoring Mystic this season at 15.3 points per game and is shooting 40.2% from 3-point range. It creates a solid guard/forward duo with Delle Donne.
It is easy to see why the Mystics hit the under so much, and Seattle as an opponent is another reason to believe in the under on Thursday.
Seattle Storm Stats
The Storm have been equally great defensively, allowing 76.8 points per game and ranking second. They are seventh, allowing teams to hit 44% from the field but are second on the perimeter, forcing teams to 32.3% from 3-point range and ranking second.
They’ve also struggled offensively, ranking 10th at 78.4 points per game and 41.9% shooting from the field. They are fifth at 35.7% from 3-point range. They are 10th in rebounding at 32.3 per contest.
It isn’t for a lack of talent for the perennial Western Conference semifinalists. Breanna Stewart was second in the All-Star vote among forwards. Guards Sue Bird and Jewell Loyd were fourth and fifth, respectively, among guards.
Speaking of Bird, a women’s basketball icon, she announced it is her final season which will
wrap up a 22-year career. The floor general still sees the floor as well as anyone, dishing 6.8 assists per game. Her 8.6 points per game best come on 3-point opportunities, where she’s converting at a 40.9% clip.
But it is Stewart and Loyd who lead the pack. Stewart leads the team at 21.8 points and 7.6 rebounds per game. She converts inside and on the perimeter with a shooting slash of .461/.356/.870. Loyd is second in scoring at 17.1 points per game.

Washington Mystics at Seattle Storm Predictions
It will be a defensive battle late Thursday night. The Storm are slight favorites despite being worse on paper, but it is their first game after three days off from an East Coast swing, while the Mystics are on the second game of their Western trip.
Stewart and Loyd are as good of a duo there is in the WNBA, so it is hard to bet against the Storm. We’ll take Seattle -2.5 and also the moneyline and under 153.
While both teams project as playoff teams because of their defensive abilities, a lot of eyes will be on Bird, who is recognized for her UConn stardom as her career winds down.
