Birmingham, favored since the start of the preseason, is seeking to cash in its big expectations with a UFL title. The Stallions, who won USFL championships in 2022 and 2023, posted the league’s best record at 9-1 and ranked top-2 in both total offense and total defense. As such, they’re a popular bet on the UFL Finals and are favored at -3 on the point spread.

Coached by Skip Holtz, the Stallions had five double-digit wins and seven victories of at least seven points.

Coincidentally, San Antonio handed Birmingham its only loss (18-9 in Week 9). The Brahmas, who opened as the UFL’s biggest longshot at +1400 title odds, went 7-3.

Led by longtime NFL defensive coordinator/head coach Wade Phillips, who last season guided the XFL’s Roughnecks to a division championship, San Antonio allowed a UFL-low 15.3 points per game.

The Stallions have been favored practically all season, so no reason should change here. Despite losing in Week 9 to San Antonio, the Stallions are the UFL’s team to beat.

Birmingham looked vulnerable in the USFL Conference Championship, falling behind Michigan 18-3 in the first half before ripping off 30 unanswered points. But it deserves the benefit of the doubt, especially at a neutral-site location.

That shouldn’t bother San Antonio, which has relished being overlooked. The Brahmas’ UFL betting odds finally dipped below +700 before the playoffs.

Adrian Martinez is expected to start at quarterback for Birmingham, though the newly minted UFL MVP may share reps for the second straight week. Holtz certainly didn’t dismiss the possibility after benching Martinez in favor of Matt Corral last week.

Corral, the former Ole Miss star, threw for 120 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception on 9 of 11 passing in the come-from-behind win.

“Right now, Adrian is our quarterback,” Holtz told reporters this week via Sports Illustrated. “But I don’t hesitate to play two, just like I did at the beginning of the season.”

San Antonio will continue to ride its defense, along with an underrated running game. The Brahmas ran for 213 yards in the XFL Conference Championship against St. Louis, with Anthony McFarland (115 yards, 1 TD) and John Lovett (83 yards) accounting for the bulk of the production.

San Antonio kept Martinez in check in Week 9, sacking him three times and holding the Stallions to 278 total yards. The Stallions, 8.5-point favorites, also turned it over once.

Nine points were easily a season-low for Birmingham, which led the league in scoring at 26.5 points per game. The Stallions had at least 20 points in every other game.
