The Detroit Lions will travel to SoFi Stadium on Sunday afternoon to take on the Los Angeles Rams in a very interesting matchup as both teams traded quarterbacks to each other in the offseason.
The Lions are last in the NFC North with an 0-6 and are coming off a 34-11 home loss against the Cincinnati Bengals. Quarterback Jared Goff struggled a bit as he finished 28-of-42 for 202 yards with an interception.
The Rams are second in the NFC West with a 5-1 record and are coming off a 38-11 road win over the New York Giants. Quarterback Matt Stafford had a big game as he went 22-of-28 for 251 yards with four touchdowns and an interception.
J-Will Improving
The Detroit Lions have been running the ball pretty well, and running back Jamaal Williams has been doing pretty well as he has 59 rushes for 255 yards (4.3 yards per attempt) with a pair of rushing touchdowns as well as 16 receptions for 99 yards (6.2 yards per catch).
In his last game against the Cincinnati Bengals, Williams finished with just four carries for 11 yards (2.8 yards per rush) and a catch for -2 yards. If their leading rusher can improve from last week’s disappointment, it will do wonders for the offense.
The Detroit Lions have to focus on the defensive side of the football as they are giving up 28.7 points per game this season. In their previous game against the Cincinnati Bengals, they allowed 34 points on 398 total yards of offense (256 passing, 142 rushing).
Detroit needs to get stops as Cincy finished 8-of-15 on third down and 2-of-2 on fourth down. The Bengals were able to move the ball well as they averaged 5.9 yards per play.
Best in the Game
The Los Angeles Rams have been throwing the football extremely well this season, and that helps with a receiver like Cooper Kupp out there. So far this season, he is leading the league with 46 receptions, second with 653 receiving yards (14.2 yards per catch), and leading the NFL with seven touchdowns.
In his last game against the New York Giants, Kupp had nine catches on 12 targets for 130 yards (14.4 yards per reception) with a pair of touchdowns. If he can continue to get the ball thrown his way, it will be a great spot for their offense.
The Los Angeles Rams have been doing pretty well this season as they are allowing 21.2 points per game. In their last game against the New York Giants, they gave up 11 points on 261 total yards of offense (201 passing, 60 rushing).
They need to continue getting stops on third and fourth downs as the Giants finished 4-of-15 on third down and 2-of-4 on fourth down. The Rams’ secondary was outstanding as they limited New York to throw for just 3.7 passing yards per attempt.
Who to Bet on Lions at Rams
The number is one of the highest we will see in the NFL this season, but I have no problems taking the favorite. In the last five games, Detroit is scoring just 15.2 points per game, while the Rams are averaging 29.5 points in their last four games.
Rams head coach Sean McVay has seen Jared Goff for a handful of seasons and should know how to gameplan against him while Goff has not thrown a touchdown in each of his last two games while also having an interception of each.
