The Florida Panthers came to the Stanley Cup Finals as back-to-back Eastern Conference Champions. In Regular Season, the Panthers won the Atlantic Division with 110 points, thanks to 52 wins, 24 losses and 6 overtime losses. Also, they finished third in the NHL Eastern Conference standings, four points behind New York Rangers and three behind the Carolina Hurricanes.
In the Playoffs, Florida eliminated their state rivals Tampa Bay Lightning in five games, and two of the “Original Six”. In the conference semifinals and Eastern Conference Finals, they eliminated Boston Bruins and New York Rangers, both in six games.
The Panthers are in their third Stanley Cup Finals after being swept in 1996 against the Colorado Avalanche, and losing 4-1 against the Vegas Golden Knights in 2023.
Edmonton Oilers
After a poor season start, their was 2-9-1 in November, the Edmonton Oilers got back on track when they won 16 games straight during December to February. This winning streak boost them a lot and at the end of the Regular Season, they finished in second place in the Pacific Division and fifth in the NHL Western Conference standings with 104 points, thanks to 49 wins, 27 losses and 6 overtime losses.
In the Playoffs, they eliminated the Los Angeles Kings in five games, in the Conference Semifinals, they went to the limit against the Vancouver Canucks and eliminated them in seven games, and they took out the Dallas Stars in six games in the Western Conference Finals.
This will be their eighth Stanley Cup Finals. Edmonton were the dominant force in the 80s, leaded by Hockey Hall of Famer Wayne Gretzky. The Oilers won the Stanley Cup five times (1984, 1985, 1987, 1988, 1990) and lost in other two (1983 and 2006).
