Austria hasn’t been a top footballing country in Europe, but they have some of the most exciting leagues for those outside the top five spots. Red Bull Salzburg is one of the best teams in the league, with multiple accolades since they were founded, before and after the takeover. Locally, they are a top club.

The team might not have made massive strides in Europe, but they have been one of the top teams to watch, especially in recent seasons. They continued to dominate the Austrian league since they first got their hands on the title. Red Bull Salzburg stats are undeniable in the league but can be better in the UCL.

Red Bull Salzburg General Info

In Austria, only a few teams have dominated the league for many years; RB Salzburg is one of them. They are at the top of the league for a long time, but their major issue is when it comes to Europe. They struggle to hold on to the top of the Champions League standings, as they face other tops teams from Europe.

The team has been playing their home games at the Red Bull Arena in Wals-Siezenheim since 2003. . The stadium has a capacity of 31,895. Being owned by Red Bull means they share the same ownership with the German club, RB Leipzig. It is an interesting link as both teams play on the continental stage.

Red Bull Salzburg History

FC RB Salzburg’s story started in 1933 as SV Austria Salzburg. The team existed for 17 years before it was dissolved. However, later that same year, the team was revived, and three years later in 1953, exactly 20 years after it was first created, the team made it to the Austrian top flight division, and they finished ninth on the log.

Through the years, the team continued to progress, but for a while, they couldn’t win any major title. But they did make it to the European stage. However, they were not part of the Champions League schedule until recently.

In 1978, the team’s name was changed to SV Casino Salzburg. Then, it became SV Wustenrot Salzburg in 1997, and finally, RB Salzburg in 2005 after the takeover. However, the takeover brought about a complete change that saw the creation of Austria Salzburg as some traditional fans didn’t like what the new owners were doing to the club’s history.

Red Bull Salzburg Records

The records didn’t start coming in until the 1940/41 season when the team won their first Salzburger Liga championship. Later on, they went on to the Austrian Regionaliga West Championships between the 1961/62 season to the 1966/67 seasons three times. From there, they stayed without a trophy for a few years.

In the 1977/78 season, the team won their first and only 2. Liga Championship title. And it wasn’t until the 1993/94 season that the team started to take shape and become dominant in Austria. Since then, they’ve won 16 Austrian Championships, making them one of the most successful Austrian teams in the 21st century.

The team was busy in the transfer window as they got a few players into the squad to make do for the ones they lost to other teams and increase their champions league odds this season. Below are some of the top arrivals and departures throughout the transfer window this summer.
