The club’s most successful period was in the 1970s, when they won the Second Division in 1974 and the First Division in 1977. Luton Town also reached the FA Cup final in 1974, where they lost to Manchester City.
The club has been in the Premier League on two occasions, in 1992–93 and 2022–23. Luton Town were relegated from the Premier League in 1993 and from the Championship in 2023.

Luton Town entered the English Football League (EFL) in 1920, when the league was founded. The club has played in all four divisions of the EFL, and has spent most of its time in the Third Division or League One.
