Only a few clubs created in the 1890s and early 1900s remain active. One of the operational teams still participating at the top level is AC Ajaccio. They are a French team that has been around since the 1910s. They have a long history, and the team has become better even though there are moments of lack.

We expect them to keep growing and improving as they intend to remain at the highest level. The excitement is incredible. Undoubtedly, there is more to the team. We expect them to make a statement this season after returning from the second division, where they finished second in the 2021-22 season.

AC Ajaccio General Info

AC Ajaccio has been around in France for more than 110 years. The team is based in the City of Ajaccio on Corsica, an island in France. They currently play at the highest level in France, making them one of the top teams in the country. The club’s full name is Athletic Club Ajaccien, and their nickname is L’ours, which means The Bears.

They play their games at Stade Francois Coty, a stadium with a 10,446 seating capacity. AC Ajaccio is owned by Holding Ajaccio Imperial Corse Investissement, with Christian Leca as the president. The head coach is Olivier Pantaloni. And he would manage the team in the Ligue 1 and other domestic cup competitions.

The objective is for the team to reach the highest level of the footballing world and even win more trophies. The team’s primary colors are red and white. Their home jersey is a stripped white and red top with red shorts and white stockings. The other jerseys come in black and navy blue.

AC Ajaccio History

The story of this club started between 1909 and 1910. They’ve retained their original red and white colors. After the first decade of existence, the club became Corsican champions. After that, they won seven more championships, making them one of the most successful teams on the island of Corsica.

Their last Corsican championship victory came in 1994. However, the team went pro in 1965, but they still participated in the league and won it in 1994. And by 1967, the team became the first club from the island to play in the French top division. They had some moments throughout history.

The team never dominated the top-tier French leagues, as they suffered drops to the lower divisions. Most of their dominant eras came when they played in the Corsican League. They also had a few successes in Division 2 and Championnat National.

The team will continue pushing for a better era to get a record in the top division. It is a long way out, but it is not beyond possibility.

AC Ajaccio Records

AC Ajaccio had most of their best records in the Ligue de Corse. The team had an incredible run that saw them become one of the big three clubs in the league. It was an impressive time for the team. However, since becoming a professional club, they’ve done some incredible things, even though they haven’t won many titles.

For one, the team had won the Division 2 title multiple times, and as a result, they’ve made it into the top-flight league. AC Ajaccio will want to remain in the top division because it is where they can win the most significant title in France. The team will look to ensure that they get enough points to stay on top.

During the 2022-23 transfers, the team added some new players to the roster, as a few old players left for other teams. The objective is to ensure that the team has enough players to keep them competitive for the season. See the top arrivals and departures this season.

  • Top Arrivals: Youssouf Kone, Youcef Belaili, Clement Vidal, Romain Hamouma, Fernand Mayembo.
