France has many historic clubs, and Reims is one of them. The team has been around for many decades and continues to provide exciting moments to the fans and other shareholders. The team is among the traditional clubs in the French pro men’s football division, even though they’ve not had many successes over the years.

Stade de Reims is an incredible team participating in the French Ligue 1, and the goal will be to finish higher on the log and make it into the top division. The team has what it takes to compete against other clubs in the league. So, we are looking forward to how they perform and where they finish on the table.

Reims General Info

Reims is a football club in France, and it is based in the city of Reims. It has been a top-division club for many decades with the name Stade de Reims. Its nickname is Les Rouges et Blancs (The Red and Whites). They play their games at the Stade Auguste Delaune, a stadium with a 21,029 seating capacity.

The team’s current president is Jean-Pierre Caillot, and the club’s manager is William Still. They would compete in the Ligue 1 for the 2022-23 season, and the goal will be to continue being part of the league for the foreseeable future. And they are one of the most successful teams in the country.

Reims History

Stade de Reims was created in 1910 as Societe Sportive du Parc Pommery. The team was under the guidance of Marquis Melchior de Polignac. He was a Frenchman that served on the International Olympic Committee, and for a couple of decades, the club bore the original name before it became Stade de Reims in 1931.

Even though Reims was one of the first pro clubs in the country, they didn’t make it into the first division until the 1945-46 season. They were part of the championship after the Second World War was over, and by 1949, the team had won its first Ligue 1 championship. That marked its journey to many more successes.

Reims remained a top team for many years, winning more championships and domestic cup competitions. Reims stats were improving, but they had to compete in the second division at one point. They did win the Ligue 2 on some occasions and had stints in various European Cup competitions.

Reims Records

Stade de Reims has some incredible European records with other wins; one standout season was the 1955-56 season. Even though they didn’t win the competition, they got to the final and were an incredible team that rode the wave until they lost to European pedigrees, Real Madrid.

They’ve made it to two European finals, and on both occasions, they lost to Real Madrid. In the first meeting, they lost 4-3. For the second meeting, they lost 2-0. Their records in the French Ligue 1 are better because they’ve won a few championships in the country, including the league championship.

Reims was also active in the transfer window as they tried finding players to improve the team. They have some new players and a few leaving the squad. So, below are the top arrivals and departures from the team during the last summer transfer window.

  • Top Arrivals: Junya Ito, Andreaw Gravillon, Folarin Balogun, Maxime Busi, Emmanuel Agbadou
  • Top Departures: Hugo Ekitike, Wout Faes, Predrag Rajkovic, El Bilal Toure, Ghislain Konan

As a team with a massive history, we’re not surprised that the team has had many coaches over the years. Some of these coaches have had incredible moments. So, we’ve listed some of the best coaches in Reims’ history.
