Team History

Deportivo Alavés is a Spanish professional football club based in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Álava, in the Basque Country. Founded in 1921, the club plays in La Liga, the top division of Spanish football. Deportivo Alavés’ home ground is the Estadio de Mendizorroza, which has a capacity of 19,840.

Deportivo Alavés’ most successful period was in the 1920s and 1930s, when they won the Copa del Rey twice (1928 and 1930) and the La Liga championship once (1929). The club also reached the final of the European Cup in 1984, but lost to Liverpool on penalties.

Deportivo Alavés has been relegated from La Liga on four occasions, most recently in 2020. The club has also played in the Segunda División B on four occasions, most recently in 2006.
