Real Madrid History
One of the founding members of La Liga, Real Madrid is among the most accomplished European football clubs of all time. It’s one of only three clubs that hasn’t been relegated and has spent its entire existence in the top division. As such, it has longstanding rivalries with the other two clubs (Barcelona and Atlético Madrid).
Real Madrid was founded in 1902, 27 years before the creation of La Liga. It was given its “Real” moniker (translation to Royal) by King Alfonso XIII in 1920, at which point a crown was also added to the club’s logo.
Today, not only is Real Madrid one of the most supported clubs internationally, but it is also the most valuable team in the world with an estimated worth of $5.1 billion.
Real Madrid – Historical Events
Real Madrid has won more titles than any other club and was deservedly recognized as the FIFA Club of the 20th Century in December 2000, receiving more than 40 percent of the vote. It became the first club to win five consecutive titles in the Champions League era in June 2017.
A notable event in the early 2000s is the Galácticos team, which involved the signing of top stars including Ronaldo, Zinedine Zidane, and David Beckham, among others. However, its most important signing of all-time was Cristiano Ronaldo, who signed for a then club record €94 million in 2009.

It took another two decades for Real Madrid to win its third trophy, but it was a dominant force throughout the next few decades. It won both the La Liga and UEFA Champions League in 2021-22.
In addition to success, Real Madrid has won the Copa del Rey 19 times and Supercopa de España 12 times. It also won the FIFA Club World Cup 4 times from 2014 to 2018.

Who are the Real Madrid Best Coaches?
Given the team’s La Liga dominance, it’s hard to find a Real Madrid manager who didn’t have much success coaching the team. Zidane, also known as a force on the field for France in international play during the 1990s and early 2000s, recently concluded a great coaching career at Real Madrid. He’s the only manager to lead the club to three Champions League victories.
Miguel Muñoz, however, is the most accomplished Real Madrid manager of all time based on La Liga titles. He won the trophy nine times in 14 years.
