Sevilla FC History
One of the oldest and most accomplished football clubs in Spain, Sevilla FC was founded in 1890 by a group of British expatriates who introduced football to the community. Edward Farquharson Johnston, from Scotland, was the club’s first president.
Sevilla FC has won several major cups and trophies throughout its history and has had some of the world’s best players on its roster. Most notably, it signed Diego Maradona from Napoli for $7.5 million back in 1992. Maradona, who was coming off a 15-month ban after testing positive for cocaine, lasted only eight months in Spain and scored only five goals in 26 appearances for Sevilla.
Sevilla has been quite impressive in the 21st century, with the club winning multiple Spanish Cup titles and a record six UEFA Cups/UEFA Europa Leagues. It has been a fixture in La Liga standings since the 2001-02 season and has only played seven seasons outside of La Liga since 1934-35.
Sevilla FC – Historical Events
Maradona’s arrival at Sevilla stats is arguably one of the most notable moments in club history, at least on an international scale. However, Sevilla is the only club in history to be named Best Team in the World in back-to-back years by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (2006 and 2007).
Sevilla is also the only club ever to win the UEFA Europa League three times in a row, having done so every year from 2013-14 to 2015-16.

Who are the Sevilla Best Coaches?
Sevilla has had dozens of managers throughout its history in La Liga standings. Julen Lopetegui is the club’s current head coach and arguably one of its best of all time. Lopetegui has guided Sevilla’s stats to three of its 12 60-point seasons in club history. Unai Emery, another all-time great manager, led Sevilla to 60 points twice.
Juande Ramos is another one of the club’s best managers of all time. He helped bring in several big-name players and brought the club to respectability in European competition.
