Team History

A Western Conference team, the Vancouver Whitecaps FC betting were established in 2009 as the league’s 17th expansion team and began to play two years later. While the club is technically an expansion team, it did exist for some time before joining the MLS odds.

Before joining the league, Vancouver Whitecaps FC stats participated in the USSF Division 2 since 1986. The team was also previously known as the Vancouver 86ers. It won six league championships before joining MLS betting stats.

Vancouver played its first-ever MLS match on March 19, 2011, defeating rival Canadian franchise Toronto FC. Eric Hassli scored the first goal in club history. Vancouver recorded its best finish in the MLS standings in 2017, when it finished third in the Western Conference and ninth overall. That was the only year the club qualified for the playoffs.

Historical events

Vancouver’s introduction into the league was in 2011, and it is one of the few clubs to win its first-ever match, defeating Toronto FC 4-2. Vancouver finished 18th overall that season in the MLS schedule, but had only a -20 goal differential, which was relatively impressive for an expansion team. 

It reached the playoffs the following year and again in 2014, 2015, and 2017. It has qualified for the CONCACAF Champions League twice in its history. 

Championship Won by the Team

Although it hasn’t won an MLS betting stats title (and only made the playoffs twice), Vancouver Whitecaps FC has had some domestic and international success. It won the Canadian Championship in 2015 and 2022. The club also reached the finals of the Canadian Championship in 2016 and 2018 but lost both times to Toronto FC.

Vancouver Whitecaps FC reached the semifinals of the 2016-17 CONCACAF Champions League before losing 4-1 on aggregate to UANL. It failed to advance past the group stage in 2015-16.

Vancouver has had seven coaches since joining the MLS odds in 2011. Its first coach, Teitur Thordarson, lasted only a handful of games before being replaced by Tom Soehn on an interim basis.

Carl Robinson is the club’s longest-serving and most successful manager. He was with the team from 2014 to 2018, during which time he led Vancouver Whitecaps FC to a pair of playoff appearances and its best-ever result in the CONCACAF Champions League.
