Current Squad / Roster

Wales is a top European team that hasn’t done too well on the international stage as they haven’t done too well in the FIFA World Cup. The team also hasn’t produced too many superstars to take the nation to another level on the international scene.

After a hard-fought qualification campaign, Wales finally made it to the FIFA World Cup and would want to stamp their feet and impact the competition. It won’t be an easy run, but they would have to deal with the competitiveness of playing in a highly intense competition like the World Cup.

Wales FIFA World Cup Future Odds

The FIFA World Cup tournament is filled with top teams, and it would take plenty of hard work for a team like Wales to the competition. They would also need the luck to be on their side to get far. As a result, they have FIFA World Cup odds of about +15,000. Even though it is more than most teams in the event, it is far from the top.

In Group B, the team is facing some strong opponents, and as it stands, they have the third-best odds to win the group at +550. In addition, their odds of advancing from the group are +110 for yes and -150 for no. The team can qualify, but it is a challenging job.

FIFA World Cup Wales’ Record

Wales wasn’t part of the FIFA members for the first three world cups. But when they joined the community, they didn’t qualify until the 1958 world cup in Qatar. The team was impressive in the competition as they played five games, won one, drew three, and lost one.

The record took them to the quarter-finals. But after 1958, the team didn’t make it to the world cup until they did in 2022. So, the Qatar 2022 world cup would be their second-ever appearance at the FIFA World Cup competition.

Historical Events

Wales’s only historical moments came at the 1958 world cup in Sweden. The team went unbeaten throughout the group stages but didn’t win a single match. However, in the round of 16, they got their first win of the competition, beating Hungary before facing Brazil in the quarterfinals, in which they lost.

Except for the 2018 World Cup disappointment, the USA has an excellent record of qualifying for the showpiece event on the soccer calendar. USA stats show that they have qualified for seven of the previous eight World Cups, and has successfully managed to qualify for the knockout stage on four occasions.

During this run, they have been eliminated at the round of 16 on three occasions, including in back-to-back tournaments in 2010 and 2014. However, conceding goals has been a big issue in the previous two World Cups that they have qualified for, as they allowed six goals in 2014, and five goals in 2010. The USA’s best showing came as they finished third in 1930, while their run to the quarterfinals in the 2002 World Cup remains their best modern-day effort.

Wales has had some historical players. Most were part of the 1958 group, then went all the way to the competition’s quarterfinals. Some notable mentions include Ivor Allchurch, Dave Bowen, Mel Charles, Mel Hopkins, Cliff Jones, Jack Kelsey, Stuart Williams, John Charles, and Terry Medwin.

Aside from these world cup groups, we have a few players that have done well for the nation in other competitions. One notable name on this list is Ryan Giggs, a long-serving member of the Welsh national team.

Wales’s Fun Facts In Previous World Cups

One of Wales’s fun facts in their previous world cup appearance was that they qualified from their group without winning a single game. They also scored only four goals in the entire competition and got to the quarterfinals.

Team Squad for the 2022 World Cup

We expect one of the best Welsh teams in history to go to the FIFA World Cup this year. The team would be filled with some impressive players that have impacted different leagues in Europe.

The team would want to do better than their first appearance at the tournament. So, we believe Robert Page would take his time to select a formidable team to travel to Qatar. These players would have the entire nation relying on them to deliver glory to the country.

Expected FIFA World Cup Team Roster

There is an extensive list of players that we expect to represent the nation at the FIFA World Cup. Some players have experience, but a few are new to the international stage and would need some easing in before they can start playing at the highest level. From the massive list of Welsh players, these are the players we expect on the roster.

World Cup Schedule

Wales is one of the teams set to play in Group B. They would be facing the USA, Iran, and England. They would have to win at least two games to make it out of the group. Their first game would be against the USA, a young team with so much work rate and talent to showcase in the world cup.

After playing against the US team, they would have to play Iran in their second tournament game. Finally, they would face the favorites of the group, England. The English team is favored to win one of the FIFA Worlds Cup groups. Therefore, it would be Wales’s most challenging match in the group.
