Clermont is one of the old football clubs in France that hasn’t gotten to the stage of incredible heights. Even though the team has been around for many years, they haven’t influenced the league or made any stride to dominate France in a particular era. Undoubtedly, they are struggling, but they currently compete at the highest level.

One thing we expect from this team is for them to push to become a top club in the league. We expect them to keep pushing, and as a result, they can improve their records and become more popular. Clermont is an exciting team with a long history of playing in France and outside the country.

Clermont General Info

Clermont stats date back over 100 years, and they’ve been pushing to become one of the top teams. The Club is called Clermont Foot 63 or referred to as Clarmont d’Auvernhe. Aside from that, they are also called Clermont Foot or simply Clermont. It is a French football club that plays its games in France.

The club is based in Clermont-Ferrand and has continued to compete in France, trying to become champions in various competitions and also get to play in Europe. The team plays its home matches at Stade Gabriel Montpied, a venue with about 12.678 seating capacity.

Ahmet Schaefer owns the club and is also the club’s president, with Pascal Gastien managing the team as they compete in the French Ligue 1 and other French domestic competitions. Their nickname is Les Lanciers, which translates to The Lanciers, and the team’s primary colors are Red, Blue, and White.

Clermont History

The team’s history is in two stages, and the first one started in 1911. The club operated under the name Stade Clermontois. They didn’t have much success in the league and were a struggling team during the early days. However, they managed to make it to the 1945-46 Coupe de France semifinals.

They had issues during the 40s that saw their professional football club status repealed. And it wasn’t until 1966 before they became a professional club again. Then, the team expanded when it merged with AS Montferrand in 1984, forming the Clermont-Ferrand Football Club, competing in the third division.

The team struggled and went through a series of name changes, and at one point, they were playing in the Division Honneur. Eventually, they moved to Ligue 2 by 1993 and had some successful runs in the 90s. They struggled to get to the first division, and fortunately, in the 2021-22 season, the team made it to the French Ligue 1.

Clermont Records

Clermont stats show that for most of the team’s record has come from them playing in the lower divisions of the country’s professional football leagues. They were bouncing from one lower division to another. Throughout their history and until recently, they didn’t make it into the top tier of the French Leagues.

Even though they’ve been around for more than 110 years, the team will only start to set records in the top-tier division. However, their incredible run in the 1997 Coupe de France tournament will remain one of their most impressive runs in a domestic cup competition, and we expect them to top it as they keep progressing.

Clermont wasn’t left out in the transfer window. They also had some teams come into their squad as they looked to add more competitiveness. As a result, below are some of the team’s top new arrivals and departures.

  • Top Arrivals: Jeremie Bela, Maxime Gonalone, Komnen Andric Mateusz Wieteska, Maximiliano Caufriez.
  • Top Departures: Mohamed Bayo, Salis Abdul Samed, Akim Zedadka, Cedric Hountondji, Vital Nsimba

The team has had many coaches throughout its history; only a few have seen them through their best eras and moments. So, here are some of the team’s best coaches.

  • Hubert Velud
  • Pascal Gastien
  • Didier Olle-Nicolle
  • Michel Der Zakarian
