The Florida Panthers would maybe like a little breather after a long season and heading into the playoffs, but they aren’t taking one as the team tries to chase down their first President’s Trophy in franchise history. Florida currently sits two points back from Colorado (116) for most points in the league.
After being eliminated from the postseason, the most the New York Islanders can do in Tuesday’s NHL expert picks is hope to play spoiler. To their credit, the Isles’ haven’t completely thrown in the towel down the stretch, alternating wins and losses over their last eight games.
Matchup Information
Panthers at Islanders Betting Analysis
As expected, Florida is a pretty significant -200 favorite for Tuesday night’s NHL betting odds. That’s still pretty good value on the Panthers, considering they bring a 10-game win streak into this matchup.
Andrew Brunette’s team has also swept the first two games with the Islanders this season, winning 5-1 and 6-1, even though the most recent contest was way back in November, and each were in Florida. The Panthers were priced at -137 and -189 in those meetings, cashing in on both NHL expert picks.
Panthers Betting Analysis
It’s hard not to like a team on a 10-game win streak and still with plenty to play for as they try to stay neck and neck with the Avalanche for the President’s Trophy. Florida is just two games away from tying a franchise-record 12-game win streak, so that’s in the back of players’ minds as well.
There’s just not a ton of weaknesses on this Panthers squad, but they are still second (+450) behind Colorado (+375) to win the Stanley Cup in NHL odds. Florida is on the road Tuesday night, but they also just set a franchise record with their 50th away point of the season (22-9-6) and are 17-5 the last 22 away from FLA Live Arena.
Florida brings the #1 scoring offense in the league into Tuesday’s NHL expert picks, averaging 4.2 goals/game. They’ve found the back of the net at least four times in nine of the 10 wins on their current streak. Jonathan Huberdeau, Sam Reinhart, and Aleksander Barkov all rank in the top 20 in scoring over the past two weeks, so it’s been a balanced team effort.
Islanders Betting Analysis
Since New York has flip-flopped wins and losses over their last eight games, that would leave them due for a victory coming off a 4-2 defeat in Toronto on Sunday. They’ve actually won four straight home games over Florida, even though their most recent was back in August of 2020. Prior to the Panthers two wins this season, the Islanders had actually won six of the previous seven head-to-head.
The loss to the Maple Leafs on Sunday officially eliminated the Islanders from playoff contention, so it will be interesting to see how they perform in the first game since mathematically being out of the postseason. This is a team that had made the playoffs the previous three years, so disappointment could definitely be a factor.
NHL picks on the Islanders at +170 are pretty risky, even though that’s a nice potential payoff. It’s just hard to see New York’s offense keep the pace in this one – while Florida has scored four or more in nine of their last ten, the Islanders have been held under four goals in seven of their last nine. New York has the #24 scoring offense in the league (2.8).
Updates
New York will play five of their final seven games at home this season, and even those two road swings are relatively close at Buffalo and at Washington. Once again, though, this is a team that made it at least to the second round of the playoffs for three straight years, are they just ready to rest?
- Panthers are 17-5 last 22 road games
- Favorite is 10-2 last 12 head to head
- Islanders are 8-1 last nine home games
- Panthers are 40-14 last 54 overall
- Islanders are 6-22 last 28 as an underdog
- Islanders are 7-3 last 10 head to head
Panthers at Islanders Betting Preview
New York has been pretty solid in winning eight of their last nine home games, but Florida has been good everywhere they’ve played. They can’t win every contest, but it’s hard to go against the Panthers amid a 10-game win streak.
Panthers at Islanders Betting Prediction
New York does have the sixth-best defense in the league, but they’ve also allowed four or more goals in four of their last five. The Islanders won’t be able to keep up with the Panthers here, and there’s decent value even in the Florida puck line +120 for Tuesday’s NHL expert picks.
