Betting Insights for Daytona 500

Denny Hamlin is the only active multiple-race winner of the Daytona 500 and starts back in 30th position. As a veteran of NASCAR, Hamlin looks to upset the field with his experience and solid team backing.

Austin Cindric has qualified with defending 500 winner Michael McDowell. The rookie, Cindric, has looked impressive so far this season. It looks like Penske’s decision to keep him in the Xfinity Series one more season could pay off for Cindric and Team Penske this year as he looks to continue his winning ways as the 2021 Xfinity Series champion.

The new Next Gen NASCAR chassis (jointly built by Ford, Chevrolet, and Toyota) is a completely different look for this season. So far, the drivers and teams appreciate the new chassis and are excited to get them into race conditions. The larger wheels, sleeker design and single-lug wheels are some of the more evident changes fans will notice.

How To Read NASCAR Betting Odds

Before you bet on a NASCAR race, there are different ways to bet on NASCAR races. Futures bets, where you place a wager on a result to be determined later such as “who will win the cup series”. Then, there are weekly wagers on who will win the race or driver match-ups where you wager on which driver will place ahead of the other.

When wagering on NASCAR, you might notice the favorite will almost always have a plus sign next to their odds. In other sports, the favorite is usually shown with a minus sign next to the odds. If the favorite has a minus sign such as -120, you have to wager that number to profit $100. As an example, you have to bet $120 to win $220, a profit of $100. If the race favorite has a plus sign next to his name,  like +120, then that is what you would profit by betting $100.

Futures Betting

Futures bets are a type of prop bet which entails betting on the future results of a certain driver or team. Common examples could be; will Ryan Blaney repeat as the NASCAR Cup Champion? Or which race team will finish with the most wins in 2024?

History of the Daytona 500

The first 500-mile race at the Daytona International Speedway was held in 1959. By 1961, it became commonly known as the Daytona 500, which has remained its name. Since 2004 with the addition of the green-white-checkered finishes, the race has gone more than 500 miles 10 times with the longest-ever race being 209 laps in 2020.

Fun Facts about NASCAR Daytona 500 race

  • 2023 Daytona 500 winner, Ricky Stenhouse Jr., recording his first victory in this race.
  • Richard Petty has the record with the most Daytona 500 wins (7) in history with Cale Yarborough coming in at second with 4 and multiple others with 3.
  • 2013 marked the first time a woman had a full-time ride in Cup Series history. She also was the first woman to win a pole position and lead a green flag lap, both happening in the 2013 Daytona 500. (As a side note, Patrick was also the first woman to lead both the Indy 500 and Daytona 500.) She went on to finish 8th, which is still the best finish by a woman in the Daytona 500.

There are no odds for the Fastest Lap Betting.

The defending NASCAR CUP Series champion, Ryan Blaney, is the favorite driver to win the 2024 race according to the NASCAR odds, followed by Denny Hamlin and Chris Buescher and Joey Logano.

Head-to-head matchups allow bettors to focus on a certain head-to-head battle between two racers, rather than the more general wager of winning the race. These matchups are typically between two drivers or a group of four drivers. Bettors select which driver will have a better result in the race.

Bubba Wallace (+105) over Kyle Larson: Wallace hasn’t met early expectations in his career yet, but restrictor-plate races seems to be his sweet spot. His only Cup Series win came last October at the Talladega Superspeedway. Bubba also has three top-five finishes in his nine starts at Daytona, including a pair of runner-up finishes. Larson is the proven champion with a strong team behind him, but the Daytona 500 is always unpredictable, isn’t it?

Michael McDowell to finish in the Top 10 at +105 odds. Betting on the defending Daytona 500 champion might have value to get him at almost even money to find his way into the top 10. He starts the race from the sixth position. He finished in second place in the second Duel race Thursday night, and turned in the fastest lap in practice earlier this week. McDowell has finished in the top 10 twice in his last six Daytona 500 races.
