History of the Daytona 500
The first 500-mile race at the Daytona International Speedway was held in 1959. By 1961, it became commonly known as the Daytona 500, which has remained its name. Since 2004 with the addition of the green-white-checkered finishes, the race has gone more than 500 miles 10 times with the longest-ever race being 209 laps in 2020.

(As a side note, Patrick was also the first woman to lead both the Indy 500 and Daytona 500.) She went on to finish 8th, which is still the best finish by a woman in the Daytona 500.
