The Edmonton Oilers will head to San Jose to take on the Sharks in this Pacific Division matchup. The puck drop for this game is scheduled for 10:30 p.m. eastern from the SAP Center at San Jose.
The Oilers come into this game after a big win Friday night to end a two-game losing streak. The Sharks have lost three games in a row prior to tonight’s contest but have been to overtime in two of the three games.
Oilers at Sharks Stats
Looking at the Oilers stats
The Oilers struggled to get the offense going after returning from the All-Star break. The first two games Edmonton played, they were only able to score a single goal combined.
In their last game against the Islanders, the seal was finally lifted, and the Oilers were able to get three goals on the scoreboard. With a single goal in all three periods, the Oilers are hoping that this can spark their offensive play and get them moving back in the right direction.
Leon Draisaitl and Connor McDavid are two of the most skilled offensive players on the Oilers roster as well as in the NHL. Coming in at first and third in the NHL standings and one and two on the roster, this combo is the best in all of hockey.
Draisaitl is leading the Oilers with 65 points, scoring 33 goals, and adding 32 assists. McDavid is right behind him with 63 points, scoring 23 goals and assisting on 40 others.
Looking at the Sharks stats
This will be San Jose’s first game since the All-Star break. They are currently 22-20-3-1 overall, in 7th place in the Pacific Division standings, and still have a chance at making a run into a playoff spot.
The Pacific Division is, by far, the closest of all divisions in terms of all eight teams being in the hunt. While the Sharks do find themselves in 7th place, they are just 11 points out of the first seed.
The Sharks need to start playing consistent hockey, as they have yet to go on a deep run of wins, with four being the most they have been able to put together.
Timo Meier has been the best offensive player for the Sharks. He is currently leading the team with 47 points, scoring 21 goals, and assisting on 26 others.
While Meier is the only player over 40 total points, the Sharks have three other players at 30 or more total points. The Sharks are also looking for an offensive spark in the second half of the season, with the first season ending with them in the bottom ten teams for goals scored per game.
