Recent Scores
As noted, part of the Chattanooga Mocs schedule this season included hosting the Keydets in their second game of 2023, resulting in their first victory of the new calendar year. The Mocs won 85-78 but failed to cover as 16.5-point favorites.
VMI had four of their five starters reach double-figures that night, led by Asher Woods’ 19. Chattanooga only had two players get there, but that’s because Jake Stephens did it all. The 7’ senior poured in a game-high 37 to go along with 15 rebounds to lead the way. Four nights later, he would go for 35 and 10 in a win over Western Carolina.
Stephens might just be one of the most dominant college basketball players in the conference, leading the Southern in both scoring and rebounding, despite not playing since January 18.
UTC head coach Dan Earl returns to Cameron Hall for the first time since taking over the job this past offseason after coaching VMI for the past seven seasons. Earl departed after guiding VMI to consecutive .500 or better seasons for the first time in over a decade.

Chattanooga Mocs vs. VMI Keydets Betting Pick and Prediction
Taking a deeper look at college basketball standings within the Southern Conference, we find that this is really a three-horse race between Furman, Samford, and UNC Greensboro. All three schools are 12-2 in conference play, and they’ve won 16 games in a row combined.
The Mocs are six games back of those three, and VMI is 11 behind, sitting in last place. UNC Greensboro and Samford square off tonight in a big one that will attract most of the college basketball picks and action when it comes to the Southern on Wednesday.
Look for Stephens, a transfer from VMI, to dominate once again. He and National Player of the Year frontrunner Zach Edey from Purdue are the only two players in the country averaging at least 20 points and ten rebounds per game. He’s the active leader in the Southern Conference in career points, rebounds, blocked shots, assists, and 3-point FGs made. The Mocs roll in our Chattanooga vs VMI prediction.
- Pick: Chattanooga -8
