An SEC battle is brewing between the 4-2 Auburn Tigers and the 4-2 Arkansas Razorbacks. The Tigers won their first two games before taking their first loss to Penn State. Auburn lost its second game of the season last week to Georgia 34-10; they are 1-1 in SEC play. The Tigers are 18-11-1 all-time against the Razorbacks.
Arkansas has the same 4-2 record, and they are 1-2 in SEC play. The Razorbacks were impressive, going 4-0 in their first four games. Then they played Georgia on the road and got blanked 37-0. Last week was a 52-51 heartbreaker of a loss to the Mississippi Rebels in Mississippi.
Auburn is 3-3 against the spread this season and also 3-3 on totals. Arkansas is a little better against the spread, at 5-1, with four games going over the total and two going under. Both of these teams can put up a lot of points. Auburn had back-to-back games of 60 points early in the season.
The Tigers are led by quarterback Bo Nix, who has played in all six of the Tigers games this year and has 1196 passing yards, six touchdowns to only one interception. He has a 57.8 completion percentage, thanks to a couple of weapons in wide receiver Kobe Hudson and tight end John Samuel Shenker. Hudson has played all six of the Tigers games this season, catching 19 balls for 267 total yards and one touchdown. Shenker is 6’4” 249 and has caught 19 passes for 256 total yards.
Auburn can also attack the ground with running backs Jarquez Hunter and Tank Bigsby. Hunter has 47 rushing attempts in six games, eight catches for 507 total yards, three touchdowns, and zero fumbles. Bigsby has 84 rushing attempts, seven catches for 511 total yards, and five touchdowns.
On the defensive side, Auburn has a monster linebacker in 6’4”, 250-pound Eku Leota. Through five games, Leota has four sacks and seven solo tackles.
The Razorback QB is KJ Jefferson, who has played in all six games this season has nine touchdowns to three interceptions and 1235 yards passing. Jefferson has good wide receivers in Treylon Burks, Tyson Morris, and Warren Thompson. Burks caught 29 passes this season for 519 yards and three touchdowns in six games. Morris has two touchdowns on 11 catches for 204 yards. Thompson has 11 catches for 179 yards and two touchdowns.
Arkansas running backs Trelon Smith and Raheim Sanders have played in all six games this season. Smith has 73 attempts, four touchdowns, and 399 total yards. Sanders has 372 total yards on 54 attempts and one touchdown.
The Razorbacks can stack the box with defensive lineman Tre Williams; he has four sacks and seven solo tackles.
