Auburn Tigers at Penn State Nittany Lions Betting Pick (Sat)
This will be the Auburn Tigers‘ first test of the 2021 season when they travel to Happy Valley to take on Penn State. In their first two games of the season, the Tigers cruised to dominant wins that include a 60-10 beat down over Akron and a 62-0 over Alabama State a weekend ago. This low level of competition doesn’t tell the story of how good this team truly is, as a season ago, they were just 6-4.
As stated before, the win over Akron was a warm-up game and allowed the Tigers to get a look at what kind of depth they have this season. The team had over 600 yards of total offense against the Zips and were just as good against Alabama State, putting up 538 yards of total offense.
Under first-year head coach Bryan Harsin, this team has looked the part as a title contender. Quarterback Bo Nix has been limited due to the blowouts in the early going but he has thrown for 383 yards on 29/39 pass attempts with 5 touchdowns and 0 turnovers.
The defense has been very impressive this season as they are allowing 5 points per game through their first two. On the season, the team has only allowed opposing teams to 36 yards per game.
The Tigers get their first taste of competition this season, as they are underdogs heading into Happy Valley. A win here could show this team is the real even though they still have to face the Alabama Crimson Tide at a later date.
Penn State Preview:
Kicking off the season, the Nittany Lions already have a quality win under their belt, beating the No. 17 ranked Wisconsin Badgers. Following the Wisconsin win, the Nittany Lions coasted in their week two matchup beating Ball State 44-13. Against Wisconsin, the team struggled to put up big yards against that defense but total 493 total yards against Ball State.
The No. 10 ranked team is led by a load of talent in quarterback Sean Clifford, Wide Receiver Jahan Dotson and running back Noah Cain. The Nittany Lions are 6.5 point favorites heading this contest with Auburn that is set for a 7:30 kickoff.
The Nittany Lions are looking to secure their second win against a ranked opponent in as many games this season. This team is starting to click on all cylinders and is becoming more dangerous as the season progresses. Offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich’s system is built from a game-to-game basis and leaves a lot of unpredictability. The defense has been energetic and hard to match through the first two games.
These two teams have very little history against one another. Auburn and Penn State have only met twice back in 1996 and 2003. This SEC vs Big Ten matchup should be a good one as it is set to be the primetime game. Penn State has been on a roll as of late, covering against the spread in their last six games dating back to last season.
