Coastal Carolina Chanticleers vs. UCLA Bruins Betting Preview
The lights will be shining bright on the Chanticleers right away to start 2023. This is a great road test for them before they come back home and play three straight home games. A season ago, Coastal Carolina scored 29.1 points per game. The defense allowed just over 30, making games competitive most of the season.
This year, the Chanticleers would love to improve upon that defense, which was 101st in the country. Coastal Carolina knows they have to have better College Football defense rankings.
On the offensive side, Grayson McCall is back under center. McCall tossed 24 touchdowns a season ago with just two interceptions. That gives the passing game comfort to air it out in 2023.
Sam Pinckney was the top receiver a season ago, needing just four yards to reach 1,000 on the season. He also returns for the Chanticleers. Reese White and CJ Beasley return as the top running backs. They combined for ten touchdowns and over 1,200 yards a season ago.
Bruins’ Challenge
On the other side, the UCLA Bruins got to be a little concerned, knowing their Week 1 opponent has a bunch returning. The Bruins do not have as much returning and will need to grow up quickly. Following this game, UCLA has a road trip to San Diego State on the NCAAF schedule.
The Bruins were one of the top-scoring teams in the nation a season ago. The Bruins scored 39.2 points per game. The run game for UCLA was incredible, ranking sixth with 238.2 yards per game.
UCLA will need to make up for Zach Charbonnet and his 1,359 rushing yards of a season ago. He is now in the NFL.
Also, Dorian Thompson-Robinson, last year’s quarterback, is also gone. He tossed for 3,100 passing yards and 27 touchdowns. Lastly, Jake Bobo is also gone. He led the team with seven touchdown receptions.
Not trying to scare folks out West, but this roster will need to grow up quickly to avoid a Week 1 upset. Much of the UCLA Bruins stats from a season ago on the offensive side are gone.
Coastal Carolina Chanticleers vs. UCLA Bruins Betting Prediction
This NCAAF game will be closer than many think. The Chanticleers have put together a solid College Football program.
Sure, they have a no coach and will look different, but they are ready to come out to Los Angeles and compete. Two touchdowns do not seem like that big of an issue for Coastal Carolina here.
The Chanticleers take care of the football and get off the field a few times on defense, and this is a game. The Coastal Carolina odds seem good here.
- Our UCLA vs Coastal Carolina prediction: Coastal Carolina Chanticleers +14.5 over the UCLA Bruins on Saturday.
