Let’s see which team is the one who takes the win on this Hawkeyes at Terrapins betting pick.
The Iowa Hawkeyes will take on the Maryland Terrapins under the Friday Night Lights from Maryland Stadium in College Park, MD. Iowa, starting the season 4-0, is looking to continue to make their case to be considered for the College Football Playoff. Maryland, also 4-0, looks to get a staple victory in the conference standings.
Iowa Looks to Continue Perfection
In just four games, Iowa has taken down two top 25 teams and beat everyone by at least 10 points. Last week when they faced Colorado State, they went into halftime, losing for the first time this season. While in the grand scheme of things is not a big deal, they had to deal with a little bit of adversity, which every coach wants to see how a team will respond.
When looking at the offensive statistics, there are definitive favorites at all three key positions. The quarterback, Spencer Petras, has started the season with an almost 60% completion percentage, throwing four touchdowns and just one interception. Tyler Goodson has rushed for 364 yards and five touchdowns. Sam Laporta has 17 receptions for 214 yards and two touchdowns.
The Iowa defense is built around their linebacking core of Jack Campbell, Seth Benson, and Jestin Jacobs. These three lead the team in solo tackles as well as total tackles. They have also caused two of the three total fumbles and recovered the only two fumbles.
Maryland is a Big Ten Contender
While Maryland has not faced anyone in the top 25 yet, they have been able to beat everyone on their schedule. Last week they were able to take care of a subpar Kent State team with a 37-16 victory. Offensively, this team is clicking on all cylinders, but the defense has some work to do.
When a team had a good quarterback, it makes offense easy, and that is what Maryland has in Taulia Tagovailoa. The junior is completing over 75% of his passes, has thrown ten touchdowns, and only thrown one interception. In four games, Tagovailoa already has three receivers who have surpassed the 200-yard mark, with one receiver over 400.
The defense for the Terrapins will be tested this Friday night. Having yet to play a top-tier offense, the Terrapins are giving up over 200 yards passing per game. If Maryland’s defense can keep the Hawkeyes out of the endzone early and give Tagovailoa a chance to score early, they should be able to stay within striking distance all game.
The Picks
The Iowa Hawkeyes are currently -4, and the points total is set at 46.5.
This will only be Iowa’s second road game this season. They are 3-1 against the spread total this season. In all four of their games, they have been under the points total.
Maryland is also 3-1 against the spread, with all three of their wins coming at home. Maryland has only covered the over one time this season.
Tagovailoa may be the best quarterback in the Big Ten, and he will prove that Friday night. Take Maryland +4 and under 46.5.
