Saturday will feature a College Football game between the Northern Illinois Huskies and Boston College Eagles. The Northern Illinois Huskies, out of the MAC, are coming off a frustrating 3-9 season.
The Huskies were 2-6 in conference play a season ago. The Huskies beat Eastern Illinois to start the season, then dropped five in a row. Northern Illinois picked up wins at Eastern Michigan at Western Michigan in 2023.
The Boston College Eagles were also 3-0 last season. The Eagles went 2-6 in Atlantic Coast Conference play. Boston College lost their opener to Rutgers and then at Virginia Tech to start 2022. Their first win came against Maine. The other two wins were over Louisville and North Carolina State.

Northern Illinois Huskies vs. Boston College Eagles Betting Preview
Things have got to go better for the Huskies in 2023 than in 2022. Northern Illinois did not do much right. The best thing the Huskies did was run the football. Northern Illinois picked up over 190 yards per game on the ground.
Meanwhile, that means the passing game was one of the worst in the country. Northern Illinois picked up just 182.7 yards per game via the passing game.
Returning in 2023 for the Huskies is Antario Brown. He led the team with seven touchdowns on the ground a season ago. Top running back Harrison Waylee is gone from the program after finishing 101 yards shy of 1,000 last season.
Rocky Lombardi is going to return as the quarterback for Northern Illinois. He played sparingly a season ago, as the Huskies used four quarterbacks. Lombardi had the best numbers, throwing for 645 yards and five touchdowns, with just one interception. Taking care of the football will be a huge emphasis for the Huskies in 2023.
Air Dominance, Ground Frustration
For Boston College, it’s kind of vice versa. The Eagles could pass the ball last season but could not run the football at all. The Eagles were even worse on the ground, with 63.3 yards per game.
Also, the Eagles were outside of the Top 100 in team defense, as opponents scored 30.3 points per game and 122nd in team offense with 17.8 points per game. That made the Eagles one of the least competitive teams in College Football.
2023 will see three transfers starting, with Ryan O’Keefe as one of the receivers. The other two will be linemen to keep Emmett Morehead upright throughout the season; Morehead will start behind center after playing about half the season in 2022.
Phil Jurkovec was the other a season ago. Those two combined for 21 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. Gone is Zay Flowers, who led the team with over 1,000 yards receiving in 2022.
Northern Illinois Huskies vs. Boston College Eagles Betting Prediction
This is actually kind of a dumpster fire of a College football game. Both teams were among the worst teams a season ago, and there is only a little promise of either being much better this season.
Of course, it’s a new season, so we will soon find out. In the end, the Huskies getting 8.5 points seems the right move. An ugly, methodical game played on Saturday.
- Our Northern Illinois vs Boston College Betting Analysis: Bet the Northern Illinois Huskies +8.5 over the Boston College Eagles.
