Let’s see which team is the one who takes the win on this Rebels at Crimson betting pick.
Ole Miss played Alabama close last season, ultimately losing like everybody did to the Crimson Tide in 2020. That 63-48 win by Alabama was also on the road at Mississippi, so is it a much easier victory back at Bryant Denny Stadium and with the element of surprise gone for the Rebels?
Oddsmakers have Alabama as -14.5 favorites in this meeting, and as expected, the betting total is sky-high at 79.
Heisman Resume Builder for Corral
Lane Kiffin has built an Ole Miss offense that can put numbers together in bunches, and the biggest benefactor of that has been QB Matt Corral. The Jr. threw for 3300+ yards with 29 TD to 14 INT last season and is well on his way to meeting those stats with 997 yards and 9 TD through just three games this season.
Corral completed 21 of 28 passes last season vs. Alabama with 2 TD and 0 INT with 365 yards through the air. The standout game for Johnny Manziel when he won the Heisman in 2012 was a 253-yard passing (2 TD) as well as a 92-yard rushing game in Texas A&M’s 29-24 win over then #1 Crimson Tide, and Saturday’s game feels eerily similar for Corral.
Ironically it may be Alabama QB Bryce Young that pads his stats to ultimately lead him to the Heisman in this expected shootout.
Kiffin wants to throw all day, every day – but it’s actually been the Ole Miss running game that has been the ultimately compliment to get the Rebels to the #1 offense in the nation. Mississippi is putting up 635.3 yards/game overall, with 336.7 coming through the air (11th) and an astounding 298.7 (4th) coming on the ground.
Alabama Has to Lose Sometime, Right?
The Crimson Tide have been at least a 2 TD favorite in all four of their wins this season, with the only real sweat game a 31-29 win over Florida in week 3. Alabama may have just gotten complacent in that matchup after getting up 21-3 in the 1st quarter, eventually letting the Gators chip away to make the meeting look closer than it really was.
Besides the UF contest, Alabama has been their usual dominant self with 30+ point wins over Miami, Mercer, and Southern Mississippi. For as much as Corral is putting up the type of stats that win you a Heisman Trophy, ‘Bama QB Bryce Young is right there with him – or ahead – with 1124 yards passing to go along with 15 TD to just 1 INT, all as a freshman.
The points seem like they’ll be there in Saturday’s 3:30 PM ET matchup, especially as last year’s total of 74 cruised well over in the 63-48 Alabama win as -24 point favorites. The Tide had 400+ yards passing from Mac Jones and 200+ on the ground from Najee Harris, but they are both off to the NFL.
Ole Miss at Alabama Pick
The Rebels played this matchup tight last season, but that was also in Oxford. The fact that the series shifts to Tuscaloosa hurts the Rebels, but at the same time, Corral and Kiffin are a year older and a year more familiar with each other.
The Gators played Alabama tough even without their best offensive weapon Anthony Richardson – so Ole Miss can do the same.
Ole Miss +14.5
