The TCU Horned Frogs will travel to Memorial Stadium on Saturday evening to take on the fourth-ranked Oklahoma Sooners in a Big 12 Conference matchup.
The Horned Frogs are 3-2 (1-1) this year as they defeated the Texas Tech Red Raiders on the road 52-31 last week. Junior quarterback Max Duggan is listed as questionable for this game but finished last week going just 8-of-10 for 104 yards with a touchdown.
The Sooners are a perfect 6-0 (3-0) this season and are coming off a 55-48 home win over the 21st-ranked Texas Longhorns. Sophomore quarterback Spencer Rattler did not play much as he went 8-of-15 for 111 yards and an interception.
No Sophomore Slump
The TCU Horned Frogs primarily run the football, and that helps when you have someone like sophomore running back Zach Evans. He is currently listed as questionable, so it will be interesting to see if he plays. So far this season, he has 74 carries for 586 yards (7.9 yards per carry) with five rushing touchdowns as well as seven catches with 95 yards (13.6 yards per reception) with an additional touchdown.
Looking at their last game against Texas Tech, Evans finished with 17 rushes for 143 yards (8.4 rushing yards per attempt) with a pair of touchdowns. If he can continue to get some touches, it will really help the offense get going here.
The TCU Horned Frogs have been doing decently well as they are giving up 28 points per game this season. Looking at their previous game against the Texas Tech Red Raiders, they allowed 31 points on 558 total yards of offense (344 passing, 214 rushing).
They need to get more stops as Texas Tech went just 4-of-13 on third down but 3-of-6 on fourth down. If the Horned Frogs can figure out how to limit the yardage against them, it will do wonders for their program.
Mims Out Wide
The Oklahoma Sooners love to pass the football, and it helps having sophomore wide receiver Marvin Mims on the receiving end of it. So far this season, he has 19 receptions for 400 yards (21.1 yards per catch) with a pair of touchdowns.
Looking at the last game against the Texas Longhorns, Mims had five receptions for 136 yards (27.2 yards per catch) with a pair of touchdowns. If he can figure out how to continue producing these numbers, it will really help the passing game even more.
The Oklahoma Sooners have been doing very well defensively this season as they are allowing 23.8 points per game this year. In their previous game against the Texas Longhorns, they gave up 48 points on 516 total yards of offense (388 passing, 128 rushing).
The biggest thing to look at was the fact the Sooners allowed 11.4 passing yards per attempt. If Oklahoma can correct its defensive woes, they will continue to climb.
Who to Bet
There is a reason why the TCU Horned Frogs are unranked while the Oklahoma Sooners are the fourth-ranked program. The defense of Oklahoma faced a tough offense but looking at the four games for the Sooners prior to the Texas game; they allowed just 15 points per game.
On the other sideline, the Horned Frogs are giving up 34.3 points per game in their last four games. The favorite has covered in five of the last six games against one another, so go with the Oklahoma Sooners laying down 13.5 points at home.
