Tulsa Golden Hurricanes vs. Ohio State Buckeyes Betting Preview
The Tulsa Golden Hurricanes and the Ohio State Buckeyes are ready for battle on Saturday afternoon as both teams are looking to get back on track. Ohio State just lost to Oregon in an upset that not many people predicted. Meanwhile, Tulsa sits at 0-2 on the season and have played close games with both of their opponents. https://insidersbettingdigest.com/ncaaf/teams/big-ten/ohio-state-buckeyes/
Game Preview
Both of these teams are looking to get their ship righted and have the ability to do so on Saturday. Ohio State is favored by 24.5 points, and the over/under is set at 61 points. There is no moneyline currently bettable on main Sportsbooks, likely due to the spread being so big.
Tulsa has gotten off to a rough start this season, falling to both UC Davis and Oklahoma State in very close games. They opened their season with a 19-17 loss and then followed that up by falling to Oklahoma State, 28-23.
The loss to UC Davis was a stunner as Tulsa was favored by 22 points in the game. They were just one of the teams that fell to an FCS program in the first week. The thing that worries me about Tulsa is that they don’t have any passing touchdowns this year, even playing an FCS program.
Tulsa Overview
Quarterback Davis Brin has thrown for 425 yards and has a completion percentage of 61.7. He has thrown two interceptions. The leading receiver for Tulsa only has six catches this season, and only one guy is over 100 yards receiving on the year.
Tulsa has been able to run the ball this year as they are averaging 5.1 yards per carry. Deneric Prince is leading the team with 185 yards on 30 carries and has added two touchdowns. Shamari Brooks is also over 100 yards on the year, contributing 106 yards on 20 carries.
Defensively, Tulsa cannot get off the field as they are awful at defending on third down. They have given up 356 yards per game and have allowed 23.5 points per game. If they want to have any chance against Ohio State, they are going to have to get better on third down.
Ohio State Overview
Ohio State started the year with a good win over Minnesota 45-31, while the next week wasn’t so kind. In a battle of Top-12 programs, Oregon came into Columbus and dispatched Ohio State relatively easily. Ohio State really struggled on the defensive side of the ball in that game, and Oregon’s speed really hurt them around the edges.
Ohio State has been led by freshman CJ Stroud who has thrown for 778 yards and seven touchdowns this season, although he has also thrown two interceptions. Miyan Williams has rushed for 202 yards this year and has added one score as well.
Defensively, Ohio State has given up 456.5 yards a game this year which is not good, regardless of who you face. Ohio State will need to fix that this weekend if they want to cover the spread.
The Pick
This game is going to be very interesting for a few reasons. Tulsa’s offense is not very good, but Ohio State’s defense has struggled a lot so far this season. If Tulsa is able to make some plays and stay on the field, then I think they will have a shot to win.
Their defense will have to play perfectly, and against Ohio State, that is going to be very hard. I look for Tulsa to get some scores in this one, but Ohio State should be able to move the ball relatively easily. I’ll take the over in this one as well as Ohio State to cover if you can get it at 24 points or better. Sportsbooks have the spread at 24.5 points currently.
