The 2024 Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships is a joint ATP/WTA event taking place over the course of two weeks at the Aviation Club Tennis Centre in Dubai. The women’s tournament, the first of several WTA 1000 tennis events this season, is ongoing this week and into the quarter-finals as of Thursday.

- Tennis Pick: Rublev def. Bublik
The men’s event doesn’t feature as strong of a field as the women’s as it’s just an ATP 500 event, but at least eight of the top-25 players in the world have committed to playing, including defending champion Daniil Medvedev.
Below is a look at the history of the tournament and a look at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis men futures – the draw won’t be released until Saturday.
ATP Dubai Duty Free Men History
The inaugural Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships was a male-only event in 1993 and classified as an ATP 250 event. It has been an ATP Tour 500 event since 2001. Like most other tournaments on the ATP Tour, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic dominated in the early 2000s. Federer won eight times from 2003 to 2019 and Djokovic won five times from 2009 to 2020. Other winners include Andy Murray (2017), Roberto Bautista Agut (2018), and Andrey Rublev (2022).

The Top 3 Seeds
Daniil Medvedev
Medvedev, the defending champion and likely favorite in the Dubai Duty Free Tennis men futures for 2024 when the odds are released, hasn’t played since losing to Jannik Sinner in the Australian Open final on January 28. That’s about a month-long absence for the 28-year-old Russian, who blew a 2-0 set lead against Sinner in the final. Medvedev was expected to play at ATP Rotterdam and in Qatar but pulled out of both events, citing a foot injury. It’s unclear as to how serious that injury is, but he’s apparently ready to defend his title in Dubai.
Andrey Rublev
Another former champion in Dubai, Rublev is currently playing in Qatar, where he is into the quarter-final after a Round of 16 win over Richard Gasquet. He’s a favorite to win in tennis odds for the Qatar Open and, should he be successful, will enter Dubai with plenty of momentum. He reached the quarters at the Australian Open and ATP Rotterdam and has early-season victories over quality opponents, such as Christopher Eubanks, Sebastian Korda, Alex de Minaur, and Felix Auger-Aliassime.
Hubert Hurkacz
Hubert Hurkacz’s tennis stats have also been quite impressive as of late, at least in terms of his service games. Like many big hitters, he has struggled to close out return games, as evidenced by the fact he played in five tiebreaks in his two matches at ATP Rotterdam last week. He reached the quarters at the Open 13 Provence in France the week before, losing to eventual champion Humbert, and lost to Medvedev in the quarters of the Australian Open.
Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships Predictions
While it’s tough to make Dubai Duty Free Tennis predictions without knowing the draw, it’s probably a good idea to fade Medvedev. He hasn’t played in nearly a month and could be out of rhythm against more battle-tested players and nobody has repeated as champion in Dubai since Federer in 2015. Rublev is probably a better option to reach the final among those with the best odds in the Dubai Duty Free Tennis men futures, while Humbert and Alexander Bublik are other players worth longshot bets considering how they’ve played lately.
