2024 Open 13 Provence Pick
- Pick: Ugo Humbert def. Felix Auger-Aliassime
Below is a closer look at the draw for the tournament along with the Open 13 Provence futures.
Open 13 Provence Past Champions
Hurkacz, one of the betting favorites in tennis odds, beat Benjamin Bonzi in straight sets in last year’s final. Andrey Rublev and Daniil Medvedev won the tournament in 2022 and 2021, respectively. Other past winners include Stefanos Tsitsipas, Nick Kyrgios, and Juan Martin del Potro. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga is the last French player to win the Open 13 Provence predictions. He’s a three-time champion and last won in 2017.
Breaking Down the Bracket
Hurkacz, as the No. 1 seed in the Open 13 Provence futures, receives a bye into the second round of the tournament where he’ll meet the winner of Bonzi vs. Alexander Shevchenko. Should he win that match, he’ll meet one of Tomas Machac, Andy Murray, Maximilian Marterer, or Lorenzo Musetti in the third round. The other quarter of the top half of the bracket features fourth seed Ugo Humbert, who receives a bye into the second round, along with Denis Shapovalov, Emil Ruusuvuori, and Alejando Davidovich Fokina.
Khachanov and Dimitrov headline the bottom half of the draw and both receive automatic entries into the second round. Khachanov will meet the winner of Roberto Bautista Agut vs. Richard Gasquet, while Dimitrov will play the winner of Sebastian Korda and one of the four qualifiers. Other contenders in the bottom half of the bracket include Zhizhen Zhang, Jiri Lehecka, and Alexandre Muller.
First-Round Betting Previews
- Emil Ruusuvuori (-200) vs. Luca Van Assche (+162)
There’s strong upset potential here as Ruusuvuori and Van Assche have no prior history and the latter will have the backing of the vocal French crowd. Van Assche, 19, is an up-and-coming star ranked just 13 spots behind Ruusuvuori in the world rankings and is 5-3 this season, whereas the 24-year-old Finnish player is 5-2. He’s also showing major improvements on hard courts.
- Felix Auger-Aliassime (-334) vs. Quentin Halys (+250)
While it’s nice to find upset opportunities in Open 13 Provence predictions, this is a match-up where the favorite should advance into the second round with ease. Felix Auger-Aliassime had a down year in 2023, but is looking better on the court this year and his tennis stats back it up. He’s 4-3 this season and is coming off of a semi-final appearance at the Open Sud de France. He also had a decent showing at the Australian Open, reaching the third round before losing to Medvedev. He has never played Quentin Halys, who is currently ranked outside of the top 100 and just 1-2 in three matches this season.
Finals Prediction
There’s a lot of good tennis matchups taking place this week with a quality field in France, but fourth seed Ugo Humbert has arguably the easiest path to the semi-finals as his quarter of the bracket appears to be the easiest. He had impressive wins over Zhang and David Goffin at the Australian Open before losing to Hurkacz in four sets in the third round. He could meet Hurkacz in the semis in France.
Auger-Aliassime, meanwhile, has been slowly building momentum early in 2024 and appears poised for a breakthrough. He has a decent path to the semis in the bottom half of the draw.
- Pick: Ugo Humbert def. Felix Auger-Aliassime
