Team History

Based in the Denver metropolitan area and playing out of the 18,061-seat Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, Colorado Rapids betting is a founding member of MLS schedule, having been part of the league since the inaugural 1996 season. The team is owned by Kroenke Sports & Entertainment, which also owns the Colorado Avalanche (NHL) and Denver Nuggets (NBA).

Colorado Rapids betting has had varying degrees of success since its inaugural season. It didn’t finish higher than four in the table until the 2016 season, when it finished second. However, it won the 2010 MLS Cup after finishing in seventh place. It finished top of the MLS standings for the Western Conference for the first time ever in 2021.

Historical events 

Colorado Rapids betting played its first-ever match in 1996 and Marcelo Balboa is credited with scoring the first goal in club history. Balboa, one of the club’s all-time best players, had one of the most memorable moments in franchise history in 2000 when he scored a beautiful bicycle kick goal and earned MLS Goal of the Year. The club and its image has evolved considerably over the years with two complete rebrandings. It once had green as its primary uniform color, but now wears burgundy and blue for all MLS betting stats matches.

Colorado Rapids won its first and only MLS Cup in 2010. The club had a mediocre regular season that year, finishing seventh overall with a 12-8-10 record, but defeated Columbus and San Jose en route to reaching the final. It scored a 2-1 victory over FC Dallas in extra time, on an own goal credited to George John, to win the MLS odds that year. Despite reaching the semifinals of the US Open Cup during its inaugural season in 1996, Colorado Rapids stats has yet to win the annual competition. It finished as runners up in 1999, losing 2-0 to the Rochester Rhinos, which are the only non-MLS team to ever win the MLS Cup.

Colorado Rapids has had 12 coaches since its first-ever MLS schedule season in 1996. The club’s first coach, Bob Houghton, lasted just 31 games. Colorado’s longest-tenured head coach is Glenn Myernick, who coached 128 games and led the team to the finals of the 1999 US Open Cup.

Gary Smith, who coached 94 games with Colorado, was the head coach when the team won the MLS Cup for the first and only time in 2010. He concluded his tenure with a record of 34-27-33.
