Team History

One of the most successful recent MLS standings expansion clubs, New York City FC betting, won the MLS Cup for the first time in 2021. It is the ninth-best supported club in the league and valued at more than $385 million, making it the seventh most valuable.

A natural rival to the cross-town New York Red Bulls, New York City FC stats didn’t begin play until the 2015 season, although talks of a second team in the Big Apple had been ongoing for nearly a decade. MLS commissioner Don Garber officially declared New York would have a second MLS betting stats team in 2010.

The club is owned by City Football Group, an ownership group that includes Manchester City officials, and Yankee Global Enterprises, LLC, which of course, owns the New York Yankees. New York City FC plays its home games at Yankee Stadium and Citi Field, the homes of the Yankees and Mets, respectively. It has also had to play a handful of games at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, New Jersey.

New York City FC won its first MLS odds title in 2021 after finishing eighth in the MLS standings that season. Interestingly, that was the club’s worst regular season finish – it finished seventh, second, seventh, second, and fourth in the five years prior.

Historical Events

New York City FC stats’ first game was an exhibition match against Scotland’s St. Mirren in 2015. All-time leading scorer David Villa scored the club’s first goal in that match. New York City FC played Orlando City to a 1-1 draw in its first MLS schedule match.

The club reached the fourth round of the US Open Cup in each of its first four seasons and advanced to the quarter-finals in 2019.

Championship Won by the Team

New York City FC’s first and only MLS Cup victory came in 2021 when it defeated the Portland Timbers on penalties following a 1-1 draw with added extra time. The club was minutes away from winning in regulation before Felipe Mora scored in injury time for the Timbers.

Obviously, the coach of the 2021 MLS Cup championship team, Ronny Deila, is recognized as the best coach in New York City FC history. The Norwegian managed the team for two seasons, during which time he had a record of 31-15-23.

Nick Cushing was appointed the club’s new coach in 2022, while Jason Kreis was its first-ever manager.
