Team History

A founding MLS betting stats team in the Western Conference, the San Jose Earthquakes stats began play in 1996 and were part of the first game in MLS history. The club defeated D.C. United 1-0 in that game before more than 30,000 people at Spartan Stadium, the home of the San Jose State University football program.

After a solid debut season, San Jose Earthquakes betting had a dismal follow-up in 1997 and 1998, but turned things around at the turn of the 21st century and won MLS Cups in 2001 and 2003.

San Jose Earthquakes’ kit has changed considerably over the years, especially in its first five seasons. The team’s home kit first featured black shorts with a white and yellow jersey, following which it switched to white shorts and a green jersey for 1997 and 1998. It went all black in 1999 and has been some form of blue, black, and white since the 2000 season. It wore red as part of its away kit for a brief period in 2014 and 2017.

The team’s primary rivals is the LA Galaxy due to obvious geographical reasons. They played in the 2001 MLS Cup and both clubs combined to win four MLS Cups from 2001 to 2005.

Historical Events

San Jose Earthquakes played in the first ever game in the MLS schedule in 1996 and has had several events of significance since, including MLS Cup victories in 2001 and 2003. Its best-ever finish in the CONCACAF Champions League is a quarterfinals loss, which occurred in 2013-14.

Several San Jose Earthquakes players have received MLS odds awards. Chris Wondolowski, the club’s all-time leading goal scorer, won the Landon Donovan MVP Award in 2012, while John Doyle and Jeff Agoos won the MLS Defender of the Year Award in 1996 and 2001, respectively.

Championship Won by the Team

San Jose Earthquakes stats won its first MLS Cup in 2001 with a 2-1 victory over rival Los Angeles Galaxy. It won again in 2003 following a 4-2 finals win over the Chicago Fire.

The club also won the Supporters’ Shield for finishing first in MLS standings in 2005 and 2012. It won the MLS Fair Play Award in 2001 and 2010.

Frank Yallop was the coach of the team during its most successful era, winning a pair of MLS Cups in his three seasons with the team. Dominic Kinnear led the Earthquakes to a Supporters’ Shield in 2005, while Yallop, who returned to manage the team from 2007 to 2013, was at the helm for San Jose’s second MLS odds Supporters’ Shield.
