The Seattle Sounders FC were an expansion team in the MLS, and in their more than a decade of experience in Major League Soccer, we are going to dive into the past and present. They are currently ninth in the Western Conference with a 10-3-13 record and on the outside looking in at the MLS standings.
Team History
The Seattle Sounders FC has a solid amount of history behind it, even as an expansion team. They were officially founded on November 13, 2007, and began their MLS career in the 2009 season. They’ve been doing extremely well in their short run as a franchise, as the Sounders have won a pair of championships thus far.
Seattle Sounders FC Records
The Seattle Sounders FC stats are pretty consistent that they have been able to put up numbers throughout franchise history. Forward Fredy Montero has scored the most goals by far for the club with 74 goals, which is a handful of goals more than forward Raúl Ruidíaz having 70 thus far. Forward Obafemi Martins has scored the most goals in a single season, with 17 goals scored during the 2014 season. They have had some solid players, which has helped their MLS betting stats as a whole, though, as they are trying for a third MLS Cup victory.
Championships Won
The Seattle Sounders FC have won two MLS Cups in team history as they won in 2016 and 2019 but also appeared in the 2017 and 2020 seasons as well.
Historical Events
The Seattle Sounders FC have won a pair of championships, but the second win deserves to be highlighted here. The game took place on November 10, 2019, at CenturyLink Field in Seattle, Washington. With an announced attendance of 69,274, they were able to defeat Toronto FC. This was a rematch of the 2016 and 2017 MLS Cups and was a trilogy matchup with each team winning once.
The first half of the game was scoreless, but the Sounders opened the floodgates in the second half as right-back Kelvin Leerdam scored in the 57th minute, winger Victor Rodríguez put an insurance goal in the back of the net in the 76th minute, and forward Raúl Ruidíaz added a goal in the 90th minute. They did allow a goal in extra time, but that 3-1 victory sealed that the Seattle Sounders were the better team in this matchup.
Championship Won by the Team
The Seattle Sounders FC franchise has won a pair of championships in Major League Soccer since joining the league prior to the 2009 season. The MLS schedule is difficult to get through and though it does not look like they are going to add another trophy in their trophy case this season, it still is extremely impressive.
What are the Seattle Sounders FC 2022-23 Transfers?
The Seattle Sounders FC have not been incredibly active throughout the transfer market as they added midfielder Albert Rusnak (free) and midfielder Dylan Teves (free) from Washington. They also have players out on transfers, as midfielder Ethan Dobbelaere (loan) is with MFK Vyskov, defenseman Brad Smith (allocation) is with DC United, midfielder Jake Morris (allocation) is with Columbus, and Chris Hegardt (allocation) is with Charlotte.
Who are the Seattle Sounders FC Best Coaches?
There have only been two head coaches in the history of the Seattle Sounders FC so we will talk about both of them. Sigi Schmid was their first coach and was with the club from December 16, 2008, through July 26, 2016, and has brought the team from an expansion team to a championship contender. Seattle Sounders FC betting was high as Bryan Schmetzer was named the interim coach immediately and has become the full-time coach where he was able to win an MLS Cup as well.
